GIANT BIRD OF PARADISE WANTED!!!

Pittsburgh, PA

LOOKING FOR A GIANT BIRD OF PARADISE DIVISION..WOULD ANYONE SHARE ONE TRADE OR POSTAGE??IF NOT ANY ADVICE ON WHERE TO GET ONE AT A RESONABLE PRICE??THANKS JEAN

Ocoee (W. Orlando), FL(Zone 9b)

Jean, I just got some at Walmart, they are about 3 feet tall, and under $10. Remember to look for the white ones, the orange ones stay around 4 feet. I have one now that is about 20 feet tall, and blooming like crazy, but I haven't been able to divide it yet, it's next to the house foundation. Unbelievabley, my neighbors just moved in and tore out a clump that was 20 feet tall and probably 10 feet across. They dug it out with chainsaws and threw it away, I bet they had NO clue what they go for at that size. I priced one the other day, and it was about 6 feet tall, and still a single fan, and it was $65. Theirs could have paid their mortgage off!
:)

I am trying to root some side shoots I dug up from mine. I'll let you know if I'm successfull. They probably don't carry that many tropicals at Walmart in Pittsburgh.
it KILLS me to see bulldozers rip up beautiful plants. I have been watching a house that was demolished down the street to see what they were going to do with the landscape , but yesterday a lot of the plants (including a lovely - and expensive - pygmy date palm) vanished before the bulldozer. There are a couple I am watching in the front and I will stop by today. People have so litle respect for living things, never mind the $$$...

This is an old thread, I know. I was looking to see if you have been on - I didn't know whether you were still interested in trading (without the Crossvine). I am.

I have a small Strelitzia nicolai that I got as a volunteer in a pot of a Pitcairnea at a plant sale. This plant gets 30 ft. high in San Diego - it has black "pods" with white flowers. The picture is the plant - in a 6" pot. Are you still looking for one?
