I just joined this week and already am addicted to reading the wonderful forums here. I love to grow roses, perennials, and some veggies. I am also trying to begin to grow orchids. There's so much fabulous information here!!
Can't wait for spring~and to learn from and share with all of you terrific gardeners.

Hi, I'm a new member from the Hudson Valley of New York
Hi Daisygirl,Iwas posting & saw yours w no replies,so I decided to say Hi!!& get rid of that Big zero on your replies..I am from Pgh Pa & also love all of the info on this site ,Its just great,Ive been a non paying reader w limited access for about 8 mths(since I got this box,but joined on the recommendation of a friend, who says its the best $15 shes ever spent, shes meeting gardeners from all over & getting alot of great plants & the info she gets here is amazing..my trade lists arent nearly complete, neither is anything else Im supposed to fill out,but I live up here with my husband who & two sons, cats fish(tropicals) & thousands of plants,It all started cause I bought a house, while looking out the bedroom window,it occured to me how ugly the yard was,& maybe I should grow something, anything to cover it,at least the weeds wouldnt take it over....I now have thousands of varities of plants from earliest spring bulbs ,to the latest fall flowering,& then there is my new tropical room..(my oldest sons bedroom!!!)...hope to hear back from you...lmk what grows in your part of the country...jean
Hi, jeaninpgh. Thanks for posting in my thread. I didn't even know there was such a thing as the trade list...I'm going to go looking for it.
Since you asked what grows in my part of the country, I think that most of what we have here probably grows well in pgh, too.
This year, I'm adding another garden that will be a combination cutting garden and veggie patch. I just want a garden where I don't have to worry about how it looks and can cut as many flowers as I want. And grow a few choice vegs.
Currently, I'm going nuts for dahlias and roses. And I just checked in the new cutting garden and see that the tips of most of the 300 different tulips I planted there were beginning to peek out!!!
Spring is coming...even if it's going down to the teens tonight...sob!
hi daisygrrl, I lived in upstate NY a long long time ago, spring may come later than it does here in the desert - but when it comes .... wow! I miss my peony bed and my double white lilacs & on & on. Have you spotted a robin yet or is it too early?
Welcome Daiseygirl from cold and snowy Michigan...
Loretta...
Hello from the carolinas -welcome aboard!
Welcome from Iowa Daisygrrl.
I'm new too and I have been all over the place ever since. It took me a while to post my own stuff, but I've learned a lot already! I love it here!
Hmmmm....now I have to figure out how to answer these lovely posts individually!
I'm sure there's a more technosavvy way, but here goes...
Angele: No robins here yet, but two blue birds count? I was visiting my mother in law in Maine this week, though, and she must have had 10 robins visiting! Re peonies and lilacs, I can't imagine not having those...but then you get so many fabulous gardening days! An even trade, I guess.
Lorette: Thanks for saying hi. It's not snowy here, but plenty cold, too
RoseKay: Thanks for saying hi. Carolinas must be getting really springlike now...
Hi, Billyporter. I've been to Iowa many times. This is a fun board!
hi daisy girl..i found the trading posts & left a few -want to put in more as the garden wakes-my crocus is blooming the early & some lates even-must be the warm spell we had..lmk if u ever want to trade,as im always looking for new stuff..u can even email night-stalker@comcast.net as im just checking these replies now ,& may only be able to check them here & there,so if u dont want to wait feel free to email..check me out on the garden web too under the same name,as i have a bigger(but outdated trade list there too) I have gotten alot more since them & have plants in every room of the house..lmk if u would trade for rose cuttings,as i killed moms bringing them & would love some to start her new..she had a stroke & moved in w me & i brought alot of her garden ,so i always have too many & divide alot to make room for the new...thanks alot for the reply & lmk if u do want a trade am also looking for veggies for may...jean
Daisygrrl,
Hi there! Welcome to Dave's! I certainly understand the addiction to reading the forums. Last I checked, there were about 104, now all of a sudden there are almost 200! Yes, I added a bunch more forums to my watched list!!
I love roses, tomatoes, brugs and some other things too!! Will be looking forward to seeing you in those forums!
There is a "chat" here that is on Tues 6-9pm and Thurs AM (not sure of time!) When you are on the home page, it shows up on the top right. Catch you all there!
Later, Suzi :)
daisygirl - i was away from the computer for a few days. i was thrilled to see you live in rhinebeck as i am down in wappingers falls. ou will love this site. everyone is so helpful.
wow~2 great things:
live chats and
a neighbor down in wappingers!!
Herbie: I thought Rhinebeck was in 5b, but DG "assigned" me (by zipcode I suppose) to 5B. Or at least I think they did (maybe I did?)
Anyway, do you know if Northern Dutchess Co is 5A??
Daisygrrl
you can see i'm in 5b. sinmce you are north of me i would think that yhou would be at least a 5b also. to make certain just call up the cornel cooperative institute and they will let yo know for sure. how long has you lived in rhinebeck? been in wappingers for over 25 yers now.
Herbie: 21 years in Rhinebeck...love it
Thanks on Cornell...
Oh, and I checked the preferences and indeed, I was the idiot who clicked on 5a instead of 5b for Rhinebeck!
