I was sure I started a thread on this, but could not find it, so here's another try....
I found some petrocosmea. Yea! I will take pictures when I get them and will also take pictures at the AV show this weekend, if it is allowed. Charging up the camera now. : ) Have a good day, everyone. Pam
Second Try. Found Petrocosmea
Thats great Pam ! Can't wait to see them :)) Where are you getting them ? Most shows you can take pictures .
I am getting a few from someone in Houston and one from someone at the show. I had contacted someoen at the Lone Star African Violet Council to see if there was anyone who sold them in Texas, and she really was so nice and helpful. Anyway, she put me in touch with folks. yea! AV folks seem to be nice bunch. : )
WOW you are lucky !
Have you ever had one?
no
If they are a mail order and you would like to share the link, I can add it to our Gessie sticky
I ordered mine from Lyndon Lyons and Robs carries a few. Also Pat's Pets has some.
Cant wait to see yours. They are my new obsession too!
Neat. I have never even seen one in person. Saw Forrestti in a picture and had to have it.
: )
Wow, those are really neat. I would like to have a couple of them. I fear that it is another thing for me to become addicted to.
Jesse
Their very nice but I also fear another plant I don't have room for :(( and I am loving large Chirita's, Epsicas, Alsobias, Streps , lol
Here is the link to the ones on Rob's site

Hun forgetti isn't a petrocosmea
Nautilocalyx Forgettii

I have a picture of forgetti in the link above. It came from Violet barn and I adore it :)
Lorry, it is forrestii. : ) Look at:
http://www.gesneriads.ca/petroc05.htm
Who made up all these goofy names, anyway? Forrestii, forgetti? HA!
How did you make your URL a link?
I have seen that forgettii at Rob's. It is beautiful. I have been trying to hold off on ordering from them until April. Yours is so pretty.
LOL...I guess that is what happens when I try to read the board quickly before I got to work. I read it wrong :)
Very pretty!
My url link?
I bought it on the specials page. I don't think he has it up for sale any more. That page changes alot depending on what he has available
Pam, were you able to post pictures of your Petrocosmea? If you posted them somewhere else, I missed them and I'd love to see them. I keep going back to Violet Barn and looking at theirs. One day soon, I plan to buy some from Rob. They're so beautiful! Just gotta have 'em!!
yes! Dont tease us like that.. please post photos!
No, I don't have them yet. The person who had saved one for me at the violet show very kindly told me that she had discovered mealy bugs in it the night before she came. She said I could have it, but I declined. She was very nice and honest. I love it when people do stuff like that. : ) Not the bugs, but the honesty. : ) Anyway, I have two other orders as well, and am expecting one soon (paces the floor). The other is from Pat's Pets and will not be until May or June. : ( Man, don't they know I really want these????? I saw a few at the AV show, but not the one I was most interested in. They are pretty interesting. I like forrestii and another one whose name I forgot. Anyway, pictures to come soon!!!
Oooh...those are lovely....I love how the flowers poke up above and beyond the foliage!!
I don't believe I've ever seen one of these before!
Thanks for bringing these to our attention!
Those are really pretty ... and I really don't need to get hooked on anything else right now :-)
Sharon
I'm pretty sure Lyndon Lyon Greenhouses has them ! Lali ordered a whole bunch !
Yes, they do!!
Yes i think Lali ordered them all !
I would love one of their catalogs but they are not sending any new ones. They said they only have the last years one with an add on for this year. Anyone got a last years catalog that they don't need?
Jesse
I did! I can't stop thinking about them either! I'm wondering if they will have some at the AV sale on Saturday.
I really can hardly wait until then!
begonia,
If they do have any of their old catalogs and the new add on, could you get them for me and I will pay you whatever they cost and also anything that you spend on postage.
Jesse
Begonia, just what you need. HA! Hope you get some. Have fun Saturday. I can't believe I am going to Nashville and the Optimara place is not open to the public. What's up with that? Someone suggested I ust show up unannounced. : )
Now if an AV addict showed up at my nursery with those AV eyes, longingly looking through the gates with slobber on their chin, I'd let them in! LOL
You could ask who in the direct area they ship to and go to that nursery. just a thought.
Jesse, I'm sorry I don't understand your question. Are you wanting old AVSA magazines? Or who's catalog. Also did the AVSA magazine I sent you ever arrive? I sent it media mail so it may take the route throug China before coming to you.
Oh Pam, I'm sorry about the mealy bug problem! I know you were so disappointed!
I've put off ordering because I couldn't wait til they decided to ship them in April or May. Now I realize if I had ordered a month or two ago, I'd get them sooner than if I order now because I'd be higher up on the list! LOL Oh the tangled webs I weave for myself!
I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures and Lali's!
Jess do you mean a Vendor's catalogs ? They all have ther new ones on line where we all ordered from !
Go here and you can find them all or do a search for a plant.
http://home.earthlink.net/~sestes1373/avsearch.html
Yes I placed my Violet Gallery order April 3rd as soon as the 2006 catalog came out ! They don't charge your debit or charge card until they ship.
I should got in my order with LL earlier but just did it yesterday.
Now both these Vendors start Shipping in May. ( VG may in April if warm enough)
BUT Like LL said when they start shipping in May it will take them 6-8 weeks to catch up on shipping their winter orders. So our new Spring orders we have been making probaly won't ship July/August. But to me to get nice size healthy plants is worth it!
I bought about 14 plants from Violet Gallery last Oct. and they were all blooming size. Many were blooming and have not stopped :)) Most had more than one plant in the pot. I was able to put leaves down, share babies, share leaves with many people from them !
I have a small order coming from Rob's he is shipping it April 10th. but will not gaurentee until April 16th. But when I ordered it was to get a couple my secret Easter Buddy would like and no one else ships now .
I'm sure the plants are worth the wait :))
I have no doubt they're worth the wait, I just haven't learned to wait! LOL Patience is a virtue I'm still working on. :o)
Does Rob ship pretty soon after you place an order, or does he keep a backlog of orders and you have to wait your turn?
I think Violet Barn ships pretty soon after ordering ( week or two the most) ( if it's in stock) as I don't think he has a winter back log as he ships all Winter.
VG has some plants I really want I can't get any where else. So sooner on the list sooner I get mine !
Also same with LL I ordered about 4 Chimera great prices guarentee to bloom true . Also had to have Alison's Laughter ! And they have a good selection of Chiritas fount a couple I don't have been wanting. They have a good selection of all African Violets and Gesneriads many you can't find any where else. With not much room I like to be able to get the special plants I may not find any where else !
The sooner you order the closer to the top of the list you get :))
Then we have trades in-between so somethings always coming in :))
What did you decide about Bluebird, Allison? Didn't you have a problem with them? They have some I want, but not if they're not trustworthy. When do they usually ship? Sorry for all the questions...I know I can be aggravating.
Amy I place an order a couple weeks ago ! I had to have some of their new Russians ! I have I think 6 and ordered two more ! I'm sure I'll be getting more after I trade the different one with Lorry and Lali .
The progate and grow so easy !
I also ordered an Ann plant. Always seeing Ann 24 inches across rows and rows of perfect variegated foliage / I've always wanted her. The lady showing her said she was hard to progated. I have tried past couple years at least 6 leaves of Ann , they never rooted . :( So I bought an Ann plant. I also bought a trailer. At least Libbie emailed me to let me know it was small to let it grow out. It's extremly small . I 've had it a couple weeks and had no time to transplant and wick in yet. Don't even know if it has roots but it's a live !
One thing I must say when I had problems with the plants she refunded me 100 percent even shipping.
Now their soil is like other Nurseries, and HD and Lowes. It's too heaves. When I transplant I take off almost all the soil to re-pot the plants.
And while all other Vendors went up on prices ( which I under stand cost have gone up and it takes a long time to grow the plants ) Bluebirds prices stayed the same. But the Russian plants went down a couple dollars each and the Russian leaf went
down a $1.00 from when I bought some last year !Now $3.95 each !They do sell some Chirtas, Streps, and Space baby plants
So have fun and order away :))
Hey folks, don't go buying all the petrocosmea, now. HA HA
Pam...do you (or anyone) know very much about these?
Is their culture similar to that of AV's?
Y'all are *such* 'enablers! lol!
Nan, Rob at Violet Barn says, "All will bloom easily. Same care as for violets. Try to avoid extreme heat (they love it cool)--though they'e tough, tolerant plants." So see, you'd do wonderfully with them! Perhaps you should give it a try! *evil grin* LOL ;o)
Pam, I intend to be very good - I won't buy them all...just one of each! LOL
HA HA. Just don't buy the ones I want and it will all be fine. (totally kidding). I think this is the first time I have ever started a craze. : )
My understanding is that they are similar to violets as far as care. I was just pretty fascinated by them. I tend to like the symmetrical violets. I know some folks don't care about symmetry and care more about leaf type, flower type, etc.
Well you must get your order in! Many people ordering like Lali nothing will be left. lol
Your safe with me I did not order any. I ordered Chimeras, Chiritas :))
I ordered this Chimeria :))
Fancy Lady -$17.50- PHOTO-GC - An excellent bloomer, with soft pink, single and semidouble pansies. Each petal has a light blue center stripe, with darker blue fantasy specks dancing on each flower. A pretty bouquet stands above heavily variegated, dark green foliage, with tons of beige on the leaf edge, and light green mixed in with it! The standard foliage is lightly quilted. AVSA Reg. #9524
The picture on AVSA Photo Gallery is so pretty. And I like it for it's variegation too
