Hey, everyone! I need help again..I have a florist cyclamen and some of the leaves are turning yellow. I believe it is from too much water but my flowers keep drooping so I don't know what to do. I have it sitting at an east facing window that is covered by a porch and I have the blind mostly shut. It's sitting on an end table but there is a heat vent under it. Can anyone help?
cyclamen help
I bet Lorry or someone knows ! Lorry has some :)) Good Luck !
Well they are prone to rot...so you should always water from around the edges. You may be right also on the overwatering.
I am new to them also though so I am not much help..this is just what I have read on the internet
I've found the best way to water these is from the bottom....set the pot in a saucer of water and let it soak up what it desires.
That's the only way I've succeeded with them....every time I top-watered mine ended up rotting!
Could be, too, that yours is getting ready to go dormant....these are 'forced' to bloom early by the florists, so if you've had yours a while, it might be trying to tell you something.
How long have you had yours?
I've read, too, that if they do go dormant, to set the pot on it's side and keep dry until you see new growth.
Setting the pot on it's side keeps any moisture off the crown and also helps us resist the temptation to water, or watering 'by accident'.
I've had it about a month. A present for Valentine's Day from my hubby. I do water it from the bottom only. When it goes dormant does it lose it's leaves? Guess I need to surf the 'Net.
I found a useful website for cyclamen. www.cyclamen.org It's The Cyclamen Society!I think because it was over the heat vent that was the main problem. They like it cooler. It will go dormant soon though.
That's great ! Good luck :))
Glad you found that site....if anyone would have good tips, it would be them!
I knew they preferred a cooler location, and your 'heat vent' sentence went right over my head, lol!! (sorry!)
They do lose their leaves when they go dormant (a shame, isn't it?)
I've given up on them because I"ve never been successful re-growing them after dormancy....I think the main reason is that I think it's an empty pot and it gets tossed! Another shame! (on me!)
