found this one a few days ago. Lost most of my books in the Hurricane and all of the ones with Moths in it. Have ordered more but not here yet

I think you have a small-eyed sphinx, Paonias myops. Check this out: http://www.npwrc.usgs.gov/resource/distr/lepid/moths/ms/1089.htm Until your books come in, Moths of North America website is pretty useful. It's missing some species, but it has many good photos and you can sort by species found in your state.
great guess Dawn thanks. Will have to see if I can get it to open its wings more to tell for sure. It is still on my sun porch. It won't leave. I open both glass doors every morning and close them at night. It is going to starve if it doesn't go out and feed. Maybe I can put some butterfly nectar in there for it at night
