Here's a pic of my Gessie's up in the living room...
update on pics
Morning Anita!
Very pretty....I like that stand too...it is different from what I have seen.
TFS!
Joanne
Thanks Joanne - I got it at BJ's - it's your basic metal rack stand.
Beautiful plants, nice display Anitia ! I like how you put the pictures together. Your so talented and creative ! What is BJ's ?
Laurie was asking about Hector the other day . I told he he grew up and went to College . He sure is growing fast ! Enjoyable watching him.
What a beautiful set up you have Anita.
Thanks everyone! I am almost ready for another stand!
Allison - BJ's is a wholesale club like Sam's or Costco
very beautiful. Thanks
Very nice. I am always interested in seeing the containers and the doilies that are displayed with our plants. Thanks for sharing. I have one stemmed glassware that I think I will try to use for one of my plants instead of drinking from it ;o))
Linda
Linda - I saw a champagne glass at Pier 1 that I thought would work great!!! I didn't buy, but I just might go back and get it.
Just lovely Anita. Can you show us a shot of the whole stand, seems like you have 'basket' like shelves, which is so cool. Your display is so artful! (but then again you are so talented and artistic!)
thanks for sharing!
our metal shelves at CostCo dont have that kind of shelving. thanks again.
Yes I would also like to see the whole shelves.
I have little crystal glasses with roses painted on them the tiny ones with pedistal. What do you call them ? Like wine glasses but small . I had ten but can only find two. I'm sure there's more some where Hubby loses things when we move.
I also have some other crystal pedistal glasses couple with frosted glass. Now I need more window shelves to put all my cute little holders !
You got it! I'll take some pics when I get home - or on the weekend if the light is better.
Thanks Anita !
My new AV stand is similar, but the rim runs under the shelves rather than forming a basket-like edge. I wanted to set it up upside-down, but DH convinced me that the shelves wouldn't stay put the other way because of how they attached..... Yours looks like just the same type of unit, so I may re-examine that! Sure would be nice to have a "lip" on the shelf & worry less about inadvertantly scooting a pot off the back edge!
Wonderful photos!
I agree Critter, I have the occasional sky diver too, a ledge is super!
Oh my goodness do I have my share of sky divers. They go along with the Whipping Laurie !
HHMMMMM How big is this shelf I could get rid of something to make room for one. lol Hubby always thinks their going to rust ?
hmmm..I've googled it and can't seem to find the same one online. Lot's of similar styles. If you google wire shelves or wire carts, you'll find quite a few. I'm going to have to make a trip to BJ's for some things, so I'll see if they still have them and get the name off the box. I thought it was great because, it's stackable, easy to put together and can be a utility cart if you want. All you do it add the wheels and the handle. I didn't want that because I figured it would give it the ability to move too easily.
Very nice Anita.Nice set up.The gessie are beautiful!
by the way - although I couldn't find the exact cart online - I did find this company and the pictures they show are very similar to the way my cart was put together. http://www.cleanroomeng.com/products_shelving.cfm
I think they have these shelves at Lowes, bathroom storage section.
Very nice Anita ! WOW you have a lot of plants ! Was the shelf cart exspensive ?
Ah.... thanks for the photo, Anita! My shelves are all like your top shelf.... and it looks like my DH was right, that the shelf would not stay put if I put it on upside down. I have an old plastic plant stand (really old.... had it since jr. high!) that I do use upside-down so that the shelves are more like rimmed trays... I can bottom water by pouring water right into the shelf! It works great! Unfortunately, most of the plastic shelf units I've seen lately have little holes somewhere for ventilation or drainage or something, so look closely before buying one that you think will work that way.
If I remember correctly, the cart was $40. The top shelf has 2 orchids, a begonia, Spider plant, cactus, Jade plant, and an asparagus fern that I am overwintering indoors - it'll go back out come warmer weather. I have been debating bringing my orchids out too. I a few downstairs as well [orchids, that is]. I think I'll put the Jade plant out too. When I was at the Orchid show, the Jade plant in the conservatory was in bloom. A gentleman that was admiring said that if you leave it out and bring it in just before frost - kind of like easter/christmas Cactus - it will bloom. I thought I would give it a try.
That's a good idea Jill. I can't do that with these unless I get some trays.
Very nice Anita Thanks for sharing ! What do you treat your plants with bringing them in and out for different season not to get bugs on your Av's ?
Ali, here are the ones I have. http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=34972&whse=&topnav=&browse=&s=1
I have two in the garage, five in my playhouse and I didn't use all the shelves so I used the extra shelves set up on cement bricks in my greenhouse. So far no rust on the ones in the house. I dont recall seeing any on the ones in the greenhouse, but then again they are so loaded with plants I cant see them!
LOL!
Dont whip any more plants please! Unless they are going to respond like your potential chimera!
(inside joke, peeps, regarding a typo where 'shipping plants' became 'whipping plants' and it cracked me up!)
cracked me up!)
Laurie Can't wait to see if your plant Sports too ! My other bigs looks like stripes too :))
well Allison - I used to just wash them down with the hose as I was never into my Av's like I am now and never thought about castaways. I figured I would treat them with Neem prior to bringing them in unless you can suggest another chemical?
Well I can see it harder where you live.
Here in Florida for me anyways what goes outside stays there.
We do cover if frost is expected. And plants in pots like my 125 year old night blooming Cerus comes into screen room by house covered if frost is expected...
I'm not into using chemicals but if I was to I'd have my husband do it.
Do you have a different room or area your outside plants even after sprayed when they come in during the winter can live ?
no. My house is small. I only have the living room, downstairs back door area and the light setup that has any kind of light that is good enought for plants.
Good Morning nice to see so many of you this wonderful morning !
I understand Anita . Small house . Mine keeps getting smaller with all the plants. lol
I guess you'll have to spray real good. I read Neem does not kill just makes it so the bugs can't eat. There may be some garden Spray you could use outside that would be safe before you bring them in ? But I would spray a week before and spray again before bringing them in. Egg cycles you won't be able to kill everything in one spraying.
makes sense - I have lot's of time to research before fall. Thanks for bringing it to my attention
Your welcome . So much outside. I was just tranplanting a couple little Begonia Laurie got me while she was at the show in Miami. And in one of the tiny plants I fount some type of wigly ugle worm . And when you chop it's head or body up it still lives. Yuk. They could eat your roots and leaves.. Just a lot of bugs outside. One summer we had beautiful these pots of blooming plants my husband had had them like 7 years always blooming year round so healthy. Impatients. We had trans-planted them in larger pots new and new soil. They were hanging. One just started to look sick and was dying. When we took it down to trans-plant it had no roots when before it had so many roots it was root bound. A grub had got in it even hanging and ate all the roots.
I trans-planting pieces with no roots in new pot new soil it came back.
