A new Brug - a variegated Yellow/ Gold named Jaimie

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

We now have a variegated yellow/gold to add to the list of variegated brugs. She is a sport of Charles Grimaldi. She is named Jaimie. The variegation is really beautiful and the blossoms are incredible. I just thought I would give everyone a sneak preview of my new gem.....

CONGRATULATIONS! I love the varigated leaves and how the color creeps up the corolla tube! Does it have a nice fragrance too?

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

I don't know yet. This is a photo from the hybridizers garden. Mine has nice buds but hasn't opened yet. But it is a sport of CG so I assume there is a nice fragrance

Question - will the seeds from a variegated one produce variegated ones ?
My CG seems to come pretty true from seeds . Probably take at least a year to find out .

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Love the variegated ones. They're pretty even when they're not blooming. Maya is my only one.

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Gorgeous. I love variegated plants. When will it become available?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Such a dark yellow too, a real winner!

Congratulations :) It suits CG well to be a variegated.

Yellow, one of my favorite colors!! And, variegated, at that!

Just beautiful!!

Ozark, AL(Zone 8b)

hmmm. The leaves on my Jamie seem to have more "teeth"? But I guess I'm picturing younger leaves. I'll add a couple of pics of the bloom, which smells like charles or seuss. Can't get better fragrance than that!!

Here you can better see the pink tones it has; sort of like black hills gold ;)
And I see that the older leaves aren't as toothy here

Very nice!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Lagata, figure out how we can have a double pink variegated!! LOL. Though the yellow is just great too!

Ozark, AL(Zone 8b)

Oh kell; Wupperstolz is the only one I know of, and I would crawl naked through worms for one of those!!!!!

Kittrell, NC(Zone 7b)

You two are something!! LOL! What I cant figure out is how come we don't have the kind of beauties they have overseas!! I know we have great growers on this side of the ocean! We really have some great brugs here but It just doesn't make sense does it? LOL!!

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Very pretty. How does it take the heat? Do you keep it out of the afternoon sun?

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

The specimens grown at the nursery are grown in full sun.

Ozark, AL(Zone 8b)

I had mine in heavy shade last fall, and it grew, but not not quickly, and it didn't bloom. But now, in the heat of the greenhouse, in full sun its growing like crazy, and has bunches of buds! I was too gentle with it I guess. I've suggested that it be grown in bright shade or part sun, but it might be a lot tougher than I've tested it for.

We've got the genetics for brugs as good or better now, and there are a lot in the trial process that are fantastic; but sports and new variegates are elusive; I own several double pinks I'm trying to scare some of the green out of, but so far they think i'm just silly :(

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

I don't know, Kristi, that crawling naked through worms thing might do it! It creeps me out just to THINK about it, I come unglued when something yucky touches me!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Lagata. I would crawl naked too but that would just kill the brugs from fright.

Melanie, unfortunately, the variegated ones come from sports which is a direct gift from God, I guess. I have high hopes for a double pink from a seedling Dick is growing out whose cross has already produced a double pink. It already has a branch that is variegated. It is from Kristi's cross if I remember correctly.

I have seen a few US brugs in the last couple of months that have taken my breath away. I think we are all in for a real treat very soon!!!

Ozark, AL(Zone 8b)

Different Kristi too, drat it, or I might get a cutting!! But great for Dick, her (Datdog) and all of us in time, if it were to turn out !! I'm not overly fond of worms myself!!

Kristi K (Datdog is why I add my "K")

Aren't we all hoping for him, Lagata!! If we can't have the one Ludger has here, we best have our own. LOL I will say the picture I saw of Ludger's was the prettiest brug I have ever seen.

Morning!

What a beautiful yellow! Does anyone have any seeds of this new variety to share or buy?

Thanks for sharing it!

Joanne

Ozark, AL(Zone 8b)

Sorry orkidlady; even if there were any, you wouldn't get one of these from them. Just albino seedlings that die :( And if by some wild chance you got a green/variegate seedling, the flower wouldn't be the same. Brugs don't come true from seed, which is why we swap and trade cuttings so much. It's the ONLY way to get true copies.
This one is really hard to find at the moment, so cuttings are really hard to find too.
I hunted for it (hard!) for a year before I finally tracked it down. Watch ebay, but they will probably go high until more people have them.

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

There's one for sale now on the auction site we all love/hate so well. :-)

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Well I live in Canada so it is doubtful I will get one any time soon unfortunately....*sigh*

Joanne

Ozark, AL(Zone 8b)

;) I know about that one...

Joanne, way back when I started searching I recall there was a place in Canada that was selling it; I can't begin to remember where now, but if you search deeply, you will find it. They didn't ship to the USA, or maybe not at all, but they were there already.

Union City, CA(Zone 9b)

Thank you , I thought I had read that variegated plant seed produced Albinos but couldn't remember if it was seeds off of crosses that were self polonated or variegated .

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Hi lagata2,

Thank you I am going to check it out.

Joanne
