I want to bring over a picture from EBAY. It does not have any copyright information on it. It is not one AV, but a greenhouse of AVs. Is it OK to do this?
Picture from EBAY
You should probably email the webmaster for this question (try the "Contact Us" link below).
However, I don't think you should use a picture that is not yours without getting express written consent. If you want to use a picture, the correct way is to ask the owner of the picture (in this case the vendor on Ebay who posted the picture) about permission to use. Maybe if you explain what you want the picture for, they will let you.
Another way around this would be to describe the question and then provide a link to the page with the picture. You can even state that you want people to look at a specific picture on the page to which the link refers (but without actually using the picture).
E.g like this:
The webpage in this link: http://photobucket.com/albums/v345/kdjoergensen/animals/ducks_0306/?action=view¤t=IMG_1957_3.jpg has ducks on it. Can you tell me if the green one is a male or female ?
(Ok, maybe this was a very lame example).
A picture does not need written copyright information on it for it to be copyrighted. You should normally assume that pictures are not free to use unless specifically stated otherwise (not the other way around). THat is just my opinion.

Can you tell us about it and give us the auction number ?
Hello,
I would think that if there is a name on it and you leave it on there...you should be okay but then....what do I know?
Like if someone else took the picture they usually will put their name on it.
LOL!
Joanne
Thanks, here is the item number. Allison, these are the same folks that had the other violets, I think. The AV for sale is pretty, but I just thought the picture of the sea of AVs farther down on the page is really neat. : )

Very interesting Noids ! He said if they names he does not know them,
Will they bloom true ? Are they massed grown by seed ? Are pictures touched up enhanced > ? he starts them low not his fault they go high $$ .
I have not seen many reg, bidding on them ? You can't
show them.
Did you see the letter he wrote me >
Yes, I did. I think the picture at the bottom of all the AVs is pretty. I know what a NOID is, but am not really that much of an expert about the formal hybridization process. I guess I would prefer to have named AV, but I also like pretty NOIDs. : )
Hi Pam,
Nobody ever ships anything to Canada....what a shame and I love the color in the fantasy...I just love em all...LOL!!!!
That sea of violets is real pretty...thanks for sending the item number.
Joanne
Joanne,
You can always trade with fellow Canadians?:)
Joanne
Yes 2z is so right so many people in Canada like to trade !
I have a good friend in Canada and I have been sending her plants and leaves for years.
Also there are Vendors that sell in Canada there's a couple really good ones in our sticky one even ships to US . And then there are some good sellers from Canada on Ebay if you want to go that route.
Pam that big picture of their Nursery is gorgous ! I bet
if you email him , he seems very nice and told him what you'd like to use the picture for and give him credit he'd be more than happy to let you ! He said to keep in touch that they maybe going to a web sight also. He also said they ship out like 4000 plants a day wholesale so maybe the plants are being sold in stores somewhere ! I would not mind having his beautiful plants but not just his plants but any others
the prices their going for would be too high.
Some studies about Fantasy varieties of African violets and the problems of them coming true when propagating from leaves. The explanation by some geneticist was that these plants are FREAKS , not sports or mutations in the real sense. Somthing goes out of whack in the cells which may not occur again. Fantasy blooming African violets are not stable. Even every 100 leaves you put down one of them will SPort.
Somthing in these Fantasy varieties of African violets goes out of whack in the cells which may not occur again.
Therefore the only safe method of getting the same bloom is to propagate by SUCKERS ! This means taking steps to make your plants do just that. One method is you can pinch the center crown of your original plants to cause it to sucker or double crowns forming ! I have fount even taking one or two leaves off will do this . It works on trailers also. It means of course sacrificing the perfection of your original .
Meaning is if I was to buy one of these expensive fascinating plants I would be propagating by sucker at least one plant for insurance !
It's always a good important idea to put a leaf down from each plant you buy. Lot's of time plants just won't adjust to their new enviroments . This is insurance you won't loose your plant that you love so much !
And of course you'll always want an extra of your Special plants to share and trade with your friends !
Hey Allison,
Are fantasy streps the same way?
C.
