Alocasia macrorrhiza? I have had the plant for four years; it is now 8 feet tall.

Q:Judging by the look of the flower, how long until the pollen will be ready?

A: It dropped the pollen today; Day 4 of being aromatic and 2 days after the spathe opened.
I collected the pollen using a paper collar I suspended around the flower.

Another question: I removed the rest of the spathe and brushed some of the pollen on the lower part of the spadix. It was sticky with some vicose fluid. Is this normal? [Note I also put some of the pollen in the refrigerator oin case I might get another flower.]

Marcorrhiza

Mac is one of the few alocasia species that can self pollinate. You should get seeds from it. They will most likely be douplicates of the mother plant. Hybrids with other species is were you will get the very unusual looking forms. Freezing or refregerating your pollen can work for a month or more.

Brian-
Thanks.
I have collected and refrigerated the pollin. I am also getting another flower now which I will try to pollinate (in case it doesn't self pollinate.

Regretfully nothing else is blooming.
I guess I need to post post my pollin up for "stud" in exchange for a few seeds of the cross. LOL
