Hi everybody--
If you haven't already noticed it's March and time again to track Signs of Spring across North America--
If you have fun watching nature and experiencing the seasons, you may want to take a look at this updated 2006 Journey North web page and make some notes for them on the arrival of the Hummingbirds, robins, monarchs, the first red tulips, the maple syrup run, leaf outs and other wildlife in your gardens--

We have already seen the first robins here and are on the look out for the ruby throateds migrating from Texas.
What about in your part of the country?! Let us know, too, what/when you have "first signs of spring".
"First Signs of Spring" for Journey North
tabasco .. I wasn't able to get a photo of 'im, but I'm pretty sure I spotted a Monarch Butterfly on the grounds of the Melrose Plantation in Natchitoches, Louisiana today ... With such a fleeting glance in his 'fly-by' .. I'm relatively sure it was Monarch, but taint gonna swear to nuffin' .. (lol)
I was a bit taken back, when s/he flew right in front of our faces while watching a fella cut up a very large Gingko tree that had been downed by some high winds a while back. Just couldn't get my camera 'armed' quick enuff, before s/he took to the higher flights!!

I reported my first Robin sighting last month. It was just one, but we knew Spring was here! I've been getting the emails and am hoping to see some hummers in my area. I usually don't see them until later in the year, but am hoping for hummers and Monarchs to get a little lost and come my way!
I saw some red tulips blooming up in columbus (north of here) this week --very early I think. I wonder if I should report them?... they were quite jaunty against the grey sky and bare branches and I think I will have to get some for next year.
We seemed to have had robins all winter here which seems strange to me...I wonder if they were migrating through or stayed all year. With all the climate change it may have mixed them up too...
Mags--did you post your pics of Natchitoches somewhere? I have been away and have not kept up with all the forums...
THERE (rather, HERE) .. YOU ARE !!!!
((have missed you, tabasco!!))
No ma'am .. I've not yet posted any pics from our stay in Natchitoches. Still plan to ..
With the warming trend (translating to, dealin' with some dirt!), along with the several lil construction and addition projects we have goin' on in the yarden - - I jes can't find the time! Seems that my 'to do' list has cultivated into a 'back order'!! .. LOL ..
So glad to see ya back, tabasco!!

Saw my first hummer today! It took me by surprise -flew right past me. He was a little early this year I think. Had to quick make some sugar water and get it out to him. Wouldn't want him thinking he wasn't welcome!
My son saw the first hummers in our yard last Saturday...didn't see them near the feeder set up though!
Now all the trees are in flower and the lilacs, too, so I expect we will have many visitors--at least I hope so.
Spring has definitely sprung all over the place here. Now I hope it stays a little cool so the flowers keep their blooms for a few days.
Good .. for you tabasco! .. We know you've been waiting!!

No hummingbirds yet, but my feeders are out and there are flowers in bloom. Have had robins for quite a while, and that's 'way early for them. I think it must have been the end of Feb. or early March. I should have written it down someplace. I have a brain like a sieve.
