No Roots, How Long Do I Wait?

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

I had my Brug cuttings in a bubbler for a few weeks and the ones that didn't form roots I took out and put in sphagnum moss that had been soaked in H2O2 and water. They have been on bottom heat for about 10 days and still no signs of roots. Some of them were mushy when I took them out of the water, but I cut that part off before putting into the moss. Some of them look dried and withered, but they've never been left unwatered. How long should I wait for roots before giving up? I really need the room on the heaters, but don't want to give up on these cuttings. Thanks for any help.

Heather do you have nodes in the water or in the moss? I have never tried moss but I would definitly not use heat. Are they green or woody?
Are you using H202 in the water? I can't imagine their turning mush if you are. That and a bubbler are a winning combination.

Yep, nodes in moss. Nodes were under the water when they were in water. I had read in other threads where others used heat and had great results...but you don't recommend heat? hmm, I'll have to consider that then, thanks.

When I got the cuttings most of them were green. Now they look woody, that's why I said "dry and withered looking". I really don't want to give up on these.

The only ones still in the bubbler are the ones that have roots and aren't potted up yet. They are not getting H2O2...do you think they should? They have great roots. The ones in the moss do get H2O2 when they are watered, their first watering will be tomorrow.

Out of a total of 51 cuttings I've had 17 root well enough to pot up from the bubbler...not they are potted yet. This is just so frustrating. I was planning on keeping some of these, giving some away and trading others. I can't believe I didn't even get 1/2 of them to root.

Think I should keep trying?

The last time I tried rooting cuttings was in October. I was rooting some cuttings for my mother. The Rosamond formed nodes within a few days then quickly sent out roots. The Creamsickle just sulked for weeks before forming nodes and roots. I sent out some cuttings in December to another DGer before I read that it was too late for cuttings. I would keep trying. They might root yet. Do your cuttings get plenty of light? My breakfast table has become my rooting station. The table is in a corner between 2 windows: facing northeast and southeast. The cuttings there get direct morning sun and bright light the rest of the day. All I've used is fresh water with a little H2O2, but maybe it's just been beginner's luck.

Yepper, they get plenty of light. I have grow lights on them that I try to keep on at least 12 hours a day.

I'm thinking about just plunking them in some damp soil and seeing what happens. Maybe all this tinkering and babying isn't worth it? Who knows for sure? I suppose each cutting wants different things to root. I've tried all this, maybe good old soil will work! Hey, at least I know I'll be doing that right (I think). LOL

If anyone else has any ideas I'm certainly open to hear them, any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Heather
