Few Growing Questions !
I do both :) I have 2 light stands and also have stands in front of windows :)
I use some soil in my mixture...It is one part soil, 2 parts perlite and 1 part vermiculite. I also add in some charcoal :)
I fertilize every time I water with VF11 :) witht he strength suggested
I just started growing by leaf (with all of you for support) and have babies popping up everywhere :) it is SOOOOO EXCITING :)
I truly enjoy sharing with everyone! So yup , swaps are SOOO MUCH fun~ and can't wait to do more come spring time :)
I LOVE the games :) and as soon as I come up with one..I am going to sponsor one myself :)
Oh and I am one of the few who water from the top :)
I use a sprayer and I get under the leaves with :)

Do you grow in Natural light or on stands with gro-lights ? I love growing in Natural light and do fill up all my window space I have ! I feel my plants like it better. I also have plants stands with Gro-lights and Cool white that run 12-16 hours a day depending on the time of the year.

I mostly wick/bottom water. Some of my larger plants and Streptocarpus I water from the top. I like to leach water my plants from the top once in awhile to wash fetilizer salts out.

Write not I use Pro-mix, MG, African violet soil and add 60 percent Perilite. I noticed the lighter I make my soil-less mixture the healthier my babies and plants grow.
How often are you fertilizing ?
99 percent of the time when watering .. if my plants got too dry I don't as I don't want to burn the roots.
Method, what kind, Strength ?
I use 1/4 strength except when I can afford Eleanor's V-11 I follow directions. It's safe and gently and in three years I've never had to worry.
Have you ever grown by leaf ? Yes it's my favorite thing to do ! Each new baby amazes me. I feel I'm pretty good at it too. Wink Wink

I think it would be fun to have some group projects ! Like Laurie is doing one in her local group. Each was given a leaf and it's for the first person to get a bloom ! Sounds fun !

Lorry thanks for reminding me. I have been wanting to switch to top watering make it easier for myself. I have wanting to buy this special hose hooks to the sink come to my garden stands and has bottole even on it for fertilizer and special sprays and nozel. I keep forgetting to order it thanks for reminding me Lorry !
PS I can't do sqeeze bottole hands not strong enough, but I feel it's a great method !
1) Natural light or artificial light: I use both. I have a stand in the spare room and a small bookshelf in the sun room.
2) I water from the top as I do not know hwo to wick. Will learn someday.
3) I use AV compost mix from the GC with perlite added 1/2 1;/2.
4)I fertilize once a week. I spray F11 on the leaves. Should I do anything else???
5)I follow the label.
6) I grew many many violets by leaf when a child. My mom had them and it was fun seeing the babies and potting them up. We did not use any domes or heating mats or lights. Just a leaf, a pot, some soil and a windowsill. But I am out of practice these days.
7) Yes, I never traded before but now that I am growing some leaves, i hope to be ready soon.
8) I like games. I do not know what games we could play but am interested in learning.
9) As I am starting, i have questions all the time.
10) Yes, please. We could even hybridize.

Spider I think the way you and Mom did your leaves is the perfect way ! I have seen so many new people do this and get healthy happy babies fast !
I used this method before I got light stands but still have some in natural light. The soil-less mix goes into the cup leaf goes into the soil-less mix I water threw and when cup light I water again. Easy as one two three before I know it have have too many babies !
