Hello veggie gardening people,
let me first introduce myself. My name is Jen. I just subscribed to DG yesterday! I started gardening spring of 2005 when I bought my first house. We have a lot of big shade producing trees, but about half of my back yard is sunny and now earmarked for veggie garden 2006. Last summer I grew tomatoes with great success, green beans, cucumbers, green onions, lettuce, and pumpkins.
I've been wanting to start an asparagus patch since last year, but I didn't move fast enough and order crowns. Now I thought I was starting early enough this time around, but I can't seem to find a supplier with them in stock. I was interested in growing Jersey Giant.
Would anyone be willing to point me in the direction of a good company to buy from?
Thanks,
Jen
Where to find Asparagus crowns?
Cooks garden doesn't have any? They're w/ burpee now. http://www.cooksgarden.com/
I'm thinking of getting their bareroot collection of 75 crowns, mixed varieties.
I'm also thinking about getting them (plants in pots, not crowns) from Edible Landscaping in VA, but it's because they're close to me.
Hi Zeppy,
thanks for the link. I actually had checked there and they don't seem to carry the Jersey Giant. I suppose I could get another variety.
Jen
Gurney's, Nature Hills and Vesey have listings for this variety.
Thanks Yuska!
Nourse Farms also is a reputable company that carries the all male variety.

I ordered from Nourse (years ago) and all crowns arrived safely. They were healthy and large, and the asparagus rows did well.
Heck, Nourse looks great. Hmmm.
