Every March I love to look out and see my Mexican plum in all it's splendor--my favorite tree!

You are both right, those two trees make Spring soooo beautiful.
Mine are just starting to unfold.
Lovely Mexican Plum Bayoupots, one of the prettiest I have seen.
Debbie, I am sure your Redbud is gorgeous too, I just coudn't see the whole tree.

The Chickasaw and Mexican Plum as well as the Eastern Redbud are blooming in this area right now. I saw the most beautiful redbud tree yesterday. It was very full and the flowers seemed slightly larger than the normal redbud. Much like bayoupots' tree but in that unique purplish pink color of the redbud. I must admit, I am partial to white trees. Having spent most of my life in the San Francisco Bay Area, I remember the first trees to bloom in the cities are almond trees. Out in the country (What's left of it!) wild plums are the first to bloom although almond trees have naturalized throughout CA. They usually signaled the start of a new growing season. Can you tell I still get homesick? Although a native Texan by birth, I've spent most of my life in CA.

Veronica, I haven't seen much of California, just around L.A. but what I saw was very pretty.
I remember the almond trees blooming in Spain, but they had pink blossoms, and some were double, very lovely too.

Josephine,
All, but one, Garden Prince, of the almonds growing in California have white flowers. Garden Prince, a genetic dwarf, produces double pink flowers. San Jose used to have all kinds of orchards. Springs were gorgeous.
