Mealy bugs already

Port Lavaca, TX(Zone 9a)

Saturday I found mealy bug (nymphs?) in the Mexican petunias :^( That's not the way I wanted to begin spring gardening. Is it because of the warm winter? Usually they don't appear till the heat of the summer.

I believe the mild winter we had is to blame. I found aphids and broad mites in my greenhouse. I have a feeling this is going to be a bad bug year.

I think you're right. I am already fighting aphids and mealy bugs. If it is nice this weekend, I'm going to start the Bayer 2-1 regimen to see if they can at least be controlled.

For mealies, I spray them with rubbing alcohol. I found some stuff last year called "organicide" and it worked okay.

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Same situation here (saw them this morning flying around my window box herbs). The bugs are going to be relentless this year.

The ladybugs have found the aphids here.........they're having a feast!
