Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Looking for trades for perennials. Can trade 6 times (for 2-4 branches, rooted in water now, and 6" - 24" tall).

Kathy

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

Hello Mom of Shihtzu's. I would like a willow. Check my trade list and let me know if there is anything you like. Or....is there anything special you are looking for? Do you like dahlias? I have quite a lot of tubers.

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

dahlias would be perfect. I'll send your willows out tomorrow so you will get them in 2-3 days priority.

Thanks,
Kathy

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

Would you be interested in purple cone flowers or old fashioned tall garden phlox(lavender and fragrant)? I also have lots of almium (lavender flowers), creeping tyme, coreopsis (tickseed) and three canna bulbs. Lou

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Dispatch,
I would like to try the garden phlox. I have Davidii and some pink phlox and I love them. Is this anything like Davidii?

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

Hi Kathy: Do you care which dahlia or do you have a certain colors you like in your garden?

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

surprise me.

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

The garden phlox is about the same as Davidii, it is a little taller and has a lavender bloom that smells great. I have it by my patio and love to sit and take in the fragrance on a hot summer evening. I will send some soon. It is still getting cold here off and on. Today was the day I planned to dig some up, but it has rained two to three inches today and the mud is too deep and it is still raining. Hopefully , I can get them in the mail soon. Is your address in the exchange? Mine is. If your's is not, please send it to me. Thanks so much for the trade. Is this the same as a
Harry Lauder's Walking Stick ? Lou

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Let me know when you get the willows and please, put them in water and in a few days the roots will be double. They are very, very hardy and if they do not do well for you, please send me an email because they can be cut almost anytime of the year and I can get some to you right away...without any charge. I want you to enjoy them the same way I do...
Kathy

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

I received the willows last evening. Thanks so very much. Do you know the latin name of them? How tall do they get, and can I keep them pruned to about 6-8 ft? I mailed your phlox out this morning. I hope it arrives in good condition. Lou

(Zone 7a)

Hi Kathy,
Can you tell me the botanical name please?
Thanks

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

The willow is great for all types of pruning, in my opinion. Mom has them around her deck, pruned to 6' or so, and provides great privacy. I have 2 'trees' in my front yard. The start of this wonderful tree sharing. Every spring and fall I make major cuts with my regular rose snippers and stick them in water. They root easily and will got with little care, just water like crazy. My 'trees' are about 9 ft tall and have been cut back every fall/spring and what I like is the trunks get rounder, while allowing the tree to stay within "front yard range".

They make great bonsi tree starts.

I honestly think they can reach 20' - 30' tall but I cut/clip/share and they are wonderful.

My mom has this tree and it is quite pretty! The cuttings are also pretty in a vase as a center piece.

I am seeing this thread late and was wondering if you still have any of the corkscrew willows left. It is one of the things I have been looking for. I have several types of canna I can trade or will have some hostas or bleeding heart in a month or so. By the way, I am in Bluefield, VA--not too far from you.

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Catt - you are really very close to me. I have several starts left. I just looked at your trade list. Do you have calla's left? My mother LOVES them. If not, I'll send you some starts and you and send a surprise package. It's just the fun of trading.

Send me your addy

Savannah, GA(Zone 8b)

I would love to have some of the willows. THey grow really well here, I understand they need a lot of water and my yard seems to hold water. I have red bee balm (monardo) and unnamed canna plants.
Thanks,
Chris

Petunia - I'll trade for canna and i'll get them out to you Monday - I've already been to the PO this morning.

Diana, I would love to trade for the daylily!!! That is my current plant of choice for this year - daylilies!!! Thanks.

I think this will end all the current willows I have but will post again if I have more left. I sent out 3 boxes this morning - about $13 for 3 darn boxes - but this sure is fun.

Please Dmail me if you have any more!! I'd LOVE some! I'll have Cottonless Cottonwood, Black Locust (False Acacia white and Pink) in a month or so, and pampas grass is ready to divide. With any luck I'll have a whole bunch of Aristolochia elegans, soon also (tropical/tender perennial), and a variety of perennial seeds, but not plants.

Mullins, SC(Zone 8a)

Oh that's great, thanks! I'll get your daylilies out right away :)

Hi Mom of Shihtzus. I thought I would let you know that my willows you sent are doing great! Thanks so much for the trade.

Robin

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Robin,
Thanks for letting me know how my babies are doing. I'll have more in late spring if these don't make it.

Witch - I'll get back to you in a few days. I need to box up what I have and a lady at the post office went crazy when she heard I was sending out willows - now she wants some. Do you have something more hardy for my VA zone? I looked up the items you listed and I just can't take any more high zone items or my husband will start buying more car parts - I fill up the basement - he fills up the garage. LOL

Bluefield, VA

Just want to let you know that my willows arrived today and they are great! Thanks too for the neat plant markers. They are sooo cute. Hope your callas do well.

Ohio - That is exactly what you have. They are so beautiful and graceful in the breeze. You should clip some long stalks out and put them in a large jar of water. They make a beautiful arrangement and the roots start in no time. Then you can trade or plant more. Mom put several starts together in the hole and it's more of a wide creation without the great look of the trunk - which is what I really love. You can also weave the younger, flexible stems and braid them.

Diana,
Received your box today - thank you !!!! Very healthy lilies and will be planting them when the rain stops. Your willows will have endless possibilities like my note to Ohio states. Keep in touch and if you have more lilies to trade for postage or ? let me know. It's my plant of choice this year.

Take care,
kathy

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

Kathy, thanks, I always hesitated adding my photos to the plant files, because I was NOT 100% certain this is what I have, but after looking at the link and the other photos, I was pretty sure it was the same, and my tree is only 3 years old folks, so that just tells you how fast these grow, Julie shared with me about 4 foot cutting (rooted) and look at it 3 years later!!!!! It's got to be 10 feet tall this spring already.
Thank you again Kathy, and yes I have taken branches and shared with neighbors and family already, they root super simple in water, and here if I have something I am trying to root, I add it into the water of the willows too.

I'd love some willow starts if you have some extras sometime. If you'll let me know when you do, I'll do my best to come up with something you'd like in trade.
Thanks!

Yazoo City, MS(Zone 7b)

If you have extras, I know I have tempting daylilies you would love. Many Many varieties!
Thanks!

I have a couple more and that's it for the trades, I think.....lol

What do you have for trade? Nothing I have to bring in for winter. Elephant ear, daylily, something fun? Let me know.
