CLOSED: Pele's Smoke sugar cane for trade

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

They are easy to propagate from the canes. To root them, fill a pot half full of potting soil, lay the canes horizontally and cover with about three inches of potting soil. Those long window box type pots work best because the canes are 8" and more long. Each cane will have at least three nodes and it is not recommended to cut into smaller pieces. I will cut these right before packing them, they will be wrapped in newspaper and shipped Priority. If they freeze in shipment, they will die.
Wanted:
Salvia guaranitica Argentine skies or the regular blue one
Salvia miniata
Salvia regla
Costus gingers
Kaempferia gingers, especially Jungle Gold
Clerodendron philippinum
Clerodendron trichotomum
Clerodendron paniculatum
Cestrum pink or red
Cestrum diurnum, chocolate cestrum

Here is a picture of Pele's Smoke growing. It will grow 4+ ft tall in one season, it can take frost but not a freeze. It is easy to save over winter by cutting the canes and rooting new ones in the fall before frost.

Well, darn - I don't have anything on your wish list. Oh, well! It sure is a graceful-looking plant.

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Hi Susie- I've got some plant from you list but can't send now. Can you save me a piece :).... Thanks- Kristi

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Kristi, yes, I can save you a piece.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Susie, I think I lost my Clerodendron philippinum that I got from DonnaB. After it bloomed it seemed to just dry up. I wish I had something to trade with you. The Pete's Smoke Sugar Cane would be a neat thing to have.
:) Donna

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

Calalily,

Would it be possible to send postage for a piece? I don't have anything on your list either, but surely would love to have a piece of that cane. I have looked for it to buy and can't seem to find it? If you would rather not do postage...I understand.
Could you point me in the right direction to buy it?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

CC, I am holding yours for ransom. You have to come down here and get it!!! Did I mention that it's 80 something, the orange trees are blooming........the pool is open.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I knew there was a catch........

and thanks soooo much for rubbing that in

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

You know I'm always happy to help!(it is 78 already this morning, kind of hazy, light breeze.......smells like orange blossoms and jasmine out there)

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Ha!
Gotcha on that one
I have lemons and oranges blooming in the GH plus the wisteria is in full bloom in there
life is good........

bronson, IA(Zone 4a)

crestedchik Is your wisteria in your greenhouse? I have had mine for 5 years and can get them to bloom--Im thinking about digging them up and planting climbing roses or clematis there instead. Here in cold Iowa my crocus are blooming. Yes Calalily just rub it in about your pool--yesterday it was 55 and now today its suppose to snow--that is Iowa weather!!!! I need to move south!!!!

Woodville, TX(Zone 8a)

Calalily, I have some red clerodendron. The hummingbirds and butterflies love it. If you stall have any of the cane and want to trade let me know. Thanks, Jenny

Cheryl, we are going to have a cold spell.........it is going to be 70's..........the spring breakers will freeze!
Jenny, yes, I still have enough left to trade. That clerodendron is one I've been wanting!!

Woodville, TX(Zone 8a)

Calalily, my old biology teacher gave me a start of this. He calls it Russian Redcap. I have never seen it anywhere but in his yard. I love it cause it is so easy and doesn't just take over like the cashmere bouquet clero does. Jenny

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

It sounds like a good one to have!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

cottosnag
yes its in the GH
I never had a wisteria bloom outside here although I have seen them blooming around here
just not mine....LOL
only thing blooming outside is snow drops
both the flowers and the stuff that falls from the sky

Susie
I'm working on it
scared to leave right now......

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

OK CC, I will send you a care package to make you feel tropical!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I have stuff I gotta send to you
waiting for the warmth.........
yeah ....... in 2 or 3 months....LOL
I just got some stuff from Logees.........
We had 4 days of above freezing and they sent it
so I'm feeling tropical.......

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I have been staying away from Logee's but I think I need to go to their site. I'm having withdrawals!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

before you order I'll tell you what I got so you don't order the same thing
I did get the variegated blue sky vine........
and Its big enough to root.....
5 different carnivours(fly trap.,2 pitcher plants....)
2 camellias....
I can't think..........

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I wonder if the variegated Blue Sky vine grows as fast at the plain green? I have one that Bill repeatedly takes the weedeater to because it is covering one side of my house! I wonder if he would notice another?

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

nope
he'll never notice
I just got them last week
Do you want to root it or ....you don't want me to try do you?
You know my track record....LOL

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

CC, my track record is pretty bad. You grow it this year, then when it gets bigger take cuttings. I've had better luck with older wood.
