Unique colors from sun exposure

giancarlo, That's something I'm starting to learn, is that the sun exposure amount drastically changes many of the colors of the Broms. I have a border all the way across my front yard or fingernail Broms, and some are green with the hot pink fingernails, and some are much more burgundy colored overall.
I'm trying to learn which ones can take sun, which can't, and which can change colors based on shade/sun.....
I've been looking for ones with dark red, burgundy, or purple leaves. If you can recommend any, I'd love to hear about them.

Merrymary,
Welcome to the enigmatic and spectacular world
of Bromeliads.
My little knowledge is that most Neoregelias do better
in filtered sun, thou N. CATHERINE WILSON gets beautifully
red in the sun as do all the CONCENTRICAS.
Aecmeas are filtered sun but for instance the BLANCHETIANA
and the MULFORDII need full sun.
Billbergias are for full shade.Tillandsias full sun.
You have to try different ways with some for better results.
If you feel confuse, I feel the same many times.
Good luck and feel free to ask any questions anytime.
Armando.

Armando...WOW! thats all I got ta say! :-)

I just bought two of these at the USF Botanical Gardens. They had pups for $2, and for that price I couldn't resist (even though I had just spent nearly $100 from other bromeliad dealers during their tropical plant festival). My pups are still pretty green but I've put them in filtered sunlight so hopefully they will soon be as beautiful as yours!

Also be careful not to over-fertilize Neoregelias. While they do like a constant low dosage of fertilizer, giving them too much nitrogen at once will cause them to grow longer and greener leaves.

You will also find that Neo colors tend to be better with cool nights (50's and 60's). Hah! We finally have something on the Floridians!

Yes I was reading don't fertilize only if trying to grow pups

Miami, FL(Zone 10a)

I don't fertilize them ever, they don't seem to need it.

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

I've never fertilized mine either. I figure all the stuff that falls in them and decays provides all they need.
