OK GANG..here's the update..leaves in plastic box w/no water

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

you folks may remember in early january (think it was)..that i shared a method of starting plumeria seeds in plastic box...in this case rubbermaid container....and that i decided to try the av leaves this way..with NO WATER but their own respiration....please remember that i had been away from AV's for 40 years as well....but anyway i started this experiment on january 2nd...i put 5 leaves..think off an optimara...so long ago don't remember and didn't mark the leaves in THIS experiement...i have the stems much too long...but anyway...these have been in the BOX..no water from me..only perlite....thought i'd look at them and i did find that they are rooting...after 2months ...but no ears as yet...here's the pics i just took

found my original thread...guess it was that pink pansy one...here's the orig...

ok..you guys made me do it...after 30 some years i have put down 5 leaves from the AV i bought at HD...see pic above under
"couldn't resist"...looks like a pansy to me...I have put the leaves in all perlite...with a minute touch of Super thrive..i found some very good rubbermaid containers at walmart...they have the new lock it`` with tabs...and i mean they lock up tight..perfect for most of what i do....they were 2 for 2.44 at walmart...so not bad...here's a pic

well Allison...it took much too long...my leaves are too long....and next time i'm going to add some water...with superthrive etc....and see how that happens...2months is much too long to wait...lol

guess i better send a pic of the pansy av...hang on>>>>>>>>>>.hey it's pretty!!

and i must add..Kenton saw the leaves next to the AV...asked what they were...and that's how i sent him Baldy Cypress seedlings......he he....hey..a lot has happened here in 2 months time..

Bob time goes by so fast . I don't know where the days go. Two months WOW ! Babies don't really take long as time flys !

amazing allison...almost easter time....i can see how the trees /plants here are...almost within the last 2 weeks things have changed

i think the method i used for the above would hold a great many leaves and one could just pile each box on top of each other and boy the room one would save..and by setting each box on top of the other...one increases the respiration inside etc and the bottom warmth...........sure works great with my plumeria seeds and i'm going to try a few more this way..WITH..some water in them..but not much..

another thought....what ever method one uses....take a pic of your av blooming...adhere it to your medium container....or mark them...ie....av 1.......pansy bloom
...av 2 optimara rita...etc..

I have see people put soil-less mix in baggies and leaves and pit them up to save space the they root right in there ! I grew a nice baby in a large zip lock bag with just a slightly damp paper towel in the bag and the leaf layed on it. I put on top of TV box to keep it warm. The babies grew really fast ! I set them in soil-less mix just like you would if you rooted babies in water !
But when you start getting 10 plsu leavs down I had to go to an easy system :))

ALLISON..the thing about the plastic box thing is that it saves so much space and if one can't get to everything...they kind of care for themselves..
..it is only 49 here this morning...a bit cool for us...am sure some of you wish it WAS 49....but hang on..it is warming quickly...spring is knocking at the door
