Cyphomandra crassicaulis, tree tomato

Fulton, MO

I got a tree tomato from Logees. It is a water hog, but it is growing well. I will plant it in a ground bed in the greenhouse. Two questions: In the greenhouse, will this plant grow like a tree or more like a vine, requiring staking? What is the taste? (I've seen "custardy guava" to more like a regular tomato.) TIA, SB

I have never heard of it. Please post pics when it gets going. Sounds like a fun plant.

I've grown this one for a long time. It grows like a small tree. I've never had to stake it and it will stay green over the winter if you can give it enough sun. The fruit hang on for a very long time.

Thanks. Is yours in a container?

Here is a pic of the little guy. SB

Neat plant. The stalk of the plant already looks like a tree.
