Growing Leaves

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Well I have no patience. I have 3 leaves put down (7 days ago) and I don't have a plant yet. What is wrong?

I may have to buy a WalMart Violet just to have something to work on. sigh

Well what method are you using ? Dosen't mater just wondering. I have done every method ( cept gel root lol ) and they all work the same. But when I started having hundreds of leaves down I needed an easy way !
It's going to take 2-6 weeks or longer to root. It can take 6-12 weeks to start seeing babies. And 6-12 months for a blooming plant. Sound like a long time but it really is not time will start flying .
Make sure the stem is short one inch or shorter and touch the leaf to the soil. Keep it warm and give it as much light as you can . I feed mine.
Before you know it you'll have a whole bunches of babies :))

Ha Ha. I bought a Lowe's plant to experiement on.....felt really bad for dicing it up, but.......

Oh don't feel bad. I use to buy all leaves. But sometimes they come too small not fresh ... on and on. Like I bought an African violet Russian leaf " ONE" for $ 4.95 and it was so small and poor condition it died within days ! So I figured better off buying plants. I put several leaves down, share some of the leaves and most times start the crown over for a plant ! More for my money this way.
So don't feel bad I tear my plants aprat all the time as I enjoy growing by leaf ! Most times the plants that you grow by leaf is going to be nicer, healthier and grow better as it will be use to your growing enviroment ! Thats one reason it's good iead to buy small plants they adjust better.

Hey Had, you can look at it like this. better to chop up an el cheapo AV for practice than your prized baby.

Trust me, about half of my leaves are salvages from my HD violets that were on their way to the compost!
I crisped them up in water and now have ears.

Now that I'm getting the hang of it I don't feel too bad chopping up my more precious babies. But I don't know if when I started I would have wanted to chop up one of the Ali babies I got

Do you have any left ? Leaves ? Did they all drown ?
It'a OK I have more for you !

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

I really didn't expect a rooted plant in a week. Just joking around. I can't wait to get my first one to grow. Gosh, I am fairly smart so I should be able to do it.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh you'll have all kinds of babies ! I have killed so many I don't want to say. If I have one not doing well, or a plant not growing good or look un-healthy I throw it away.
Many times my laves have dried out so they died by the hundreds ... just could not get to them :((
Best thing is just have fun and don't worry about anything !

Allison,
You do such a good job, I can't imagine any leaves daring not to grow for you.

I've started a bunch of leaves off of some Lowe's cheapies as a learning experience. Who knows? I might just get one to grow!

Makshi, just when you think they'll NEVER sprout, and you stop watching them 'round the clock, you'll turn around and poof, you'll see babies. It's kind of like that old saying 'A watched pot never boils'

I can't wait to get home and see the progress my babies have made in the 8 days I'll be gone.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh my goodness yes Laurie ! That will be fun ! I bet you have a lot of babies waiting smiling for you :))

Begon,
