Fountain care

Ocala, FL

I recently added a fountain to my cottage garden and I am in search of advice on how to keep the water clean short of emptying it out. The pool base of the fountain has large river rocks in the bottom. Can I add a small amount of clorine to the water periodically? Any help out there?

Chlorine will hurt the birds that come to visit the fountain. A little peroxide can help keep it clean, but if it's in full sun, you'll still have to keep it clean from time to time.
There is a product that you can add to fountains to keep the water clean. If I can remember the name, I'll add it to the post.

Would it be something like this?

It would be something very much like that! :)

I use Pond Care Algaefix to keep my fountains clear of algae. I also use a shop vac to suck out the debris from the bottom of the fountains.

I have a jar fountain on the deck and just use a capfull of bleach ever now and then. The birds don't drink from it though.
