Where are the roots???? Anybody know how tall this tree is? Do you think a S. Cherry Tree can grow it's entire life in a 24 inch wide planter?

Hi, citydwelleer. I took this shot at the NC Arboretum in Asheville back in February. They have a bonsai collection there. I didn't measure the tree, but my memory is that it was around 2 feet tall or so. I don't know anything else about Surinam Cherries other than the fact that the bark, especially, was outstanding!

You can keep a tree in the same container for its whole lifespan, so if a tree will live for 50 years in the ground it will live in a pot for that long.

Page 2 and many thanks to 'Bonsai-Nature in Miniature' by Kyuzo Murata & Isamu Murata, this is the family that takes care of the emperor of Japan trees. Inside the cover they give permission to use the book of educational pruposes.

You can buy this book used for $5-12 from an on line bookstore.
