IE [Internet Explorer] freeze up

I have Melenium Edition and IE [5.5?]has started to freeze up before something is fully loaded. Netscape works properly and Outlook Express does too. I use Netscape for default browser but some programs go to IE.

Norton finds no infection. Registry scan has no current errors or such. What is the best approach to fix this without total erasure of hard drive....can IE be taken off individually and reloaded by some disk?
