Received Optimara shipment today

Silver Spring, MD

Received today. Thought they would wait until the weather was a little warmer. Some of the blossom of Annabell had dark tips. Don't know if it was because of the cold or the cover that was over the her top. The leaves are in very good shape. She is still trying to warm up but is very beautiful.

I also ordered 4 miniatures and received 4 of the Little Indian Series in self watering pots.

Arapahoe Girl is the white single
Witchataw (can't read if it is girl or not) is on the right. red double
Pueblo Girl is at the left. more purple than blue double
Little Blackfoot Girl is front right. semi double

They don't look like girl leaves right now, however there is a light marking on the center veins

They are all in full bloom and beautiful. I especially love the Witchataw.

Witchataw did not make FC but it's on their web sight. I love them all :)) I'd like to have all their mini's
It took me awhile to get to it but couple days ago I repotted Annabelle removing almost all her soil and potted her into lighter mix and wicked. I was going to wait until she stopped blooming but she never came close. She is still in full bloom ! I again sprayed foliage top bottom, under neath , soil, roots with neem oil when transplanting it. I also put down 4 leaves and sprayed each one front back drenched them I'm crazy. No wonder I can't beath. So far she's doing good. I always say no way am I letting a bug kill my plants I'll kill the bugs and plant first. lol
I would wait a 2-4 weeks before transplanting them nanna. Just enjoy them and let them rest from their trip !
Did your's come Fed-EX? Mine was package perfect.
I wonder if Lorry got her's ?
I want to see which Minis she got so I can try to get different ones so we can switch leaves.

Your's all look great Nanna even in cold. Mine came in special insulated box. I love the box I'm going to use it to ship leaves to South Africa just marker off writing.
Fed-ex shipping is pretty protective too. Now mine came to Florida .
But really your plants are so healthy. I love my Annabelle and your Miniatures WOW Adorable I love them !

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh Lorretta hi ! I can't wait until you can have loads of pretty African violets ! If you order them they are not supost to ship to you until weather is ok. But they do
guarantee them !

Silver Spring, MD

The packing was wonderful. The box was lined with styrafoam (sp). I was totally suprised the plants weren't cold damaged. Only some of the blossoms of Annabelle seemed to suffer.

Besides the foam each was in plastic with cardboard surrounding. No soil spillage at all. And I thought they were beautiful plants for the price. I will certainly go there again.

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Oh and I so agree :) I will go there again. I think I may even order more of the mini series. I am going to ask if I can request that the ones I got not be in the next order :) and if so I am going to order again :)

They are in lovely condition! Oh and Allison expect leaves of them in your next shipment :)

Silver Spring, MD

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I'm so Happy you both got your orders and love them ! Nanna look so healthy and happy !
I'm going to get more minis after I get a stand empty. lol

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Wow, those are stunning additions to your collection, Nana! When you recently posted about the number of plants in your collection, I had to chuckle recalling our trip to the Violet Gallery... You were trying to be so good about not getting more plants than you had space for, but I think you talked yourself into twice as many as the absolute maximum you had mentioned when we pulled up in the car. And by the time we got back to Frederick, you were willing to let me send you home with an extra plantlet because you'd already decided you needed a plant stand for them. :-) It's a fun addiction, isn't it??

Silver Spring, MD

O H M Y G O S H ! ! !

Bill just laughs. I keep saying this is the last one. Then, lo and behold, another plant shows up.

I gave away several and threw out some very suspect plants. I keep telling myself "When the babies are gone, I will have more room.

That is why I am looking for a better way to take care of everyone.

I am going on record for the (let me see now, it must be more than 20) 21st time. I will not buy any more!!!!

(Are those fingers behind your back crossed?)

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

you're killing me Nanna! Ha ha ha. Last one? So funny.
Sweetheart, there's no cure for the AV bug!

ahem.. me too. My last one, I promise! (fingers, toes, eyes, legs crossed!)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

You will not buy any more??!? Then who will go with me when I head up to the Violet Gallery this spring? You're not going to make my long suffering hubby stand patiently in a corner there while I look and deliberate and look some more and pick plants up and put them down again or pick plants up and sneak them into my basket.... LOL! You know I cannot make the trip by myself, because then I would show no restraint at all. Believe it or not, I was more restrained with you there in fall than I would've been on my own, because I knew you'd give me The Look if I took home more than the twenty plants that were my stated maximum. Haha! OK, I confess, I think I ended up with 21, but that included the freebie trailer, and I could hardly put one back when that one went into my box. OK, really it was 24 new plants that day because you gave me 3 also. Oh, gee whiz.

So don't say you're backing out of our spring road trip!

:-D

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

oh you have to go. you need someone to rationalize your purchases with.

You should have seen Butch and I (begonia forum buddy that I drug to DG from another forum) telling each other how we needed this begonia or that one. Twisting each others arms (hardly! LOL) to buy this one or that one. 'You get it and give me a leaf', we were like a drug pusher and a junkie!

so you have to go!

Silver Spring, MD

Why do you think I had my fingers crossed?

By the way. I just cashed in my cash rewards for (you guessed it) MONEY!. Happy spending at Violet Gallery.

Silver Spring, MD

BUT!!!!!! Before we go, I must make room on the EXISTING plant stands.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh my goodness if and when I went to shows or if I was able to go to Violet Gallery I'd be buying everything my pocket book could buy :)) Room or not. lol As we all know I have no room and can't be helped I still want them all.
And if I was able when I could I would goes to Lowes and ride the electric cart with big basket and off to the garden department I'd go filling it up ! They were outdoor plants but I could never resist. And I'm sure if they had named miniatures and Space babies like Amy got I'd be buying them too !

Silver Spring, MD

You're Great

Abilene, TX

Does anyone know if you can actually go to the greenhouse (Optiamara) in Nashville and buy plants? I am going to Nashville in a few weeks for a conference and thought that would be fun.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I'm not sure Pam. But sure would be awesome ! You could call them ! Now one of them had a fire. I forget which one and if it is rebuilt by now and up and operating ?

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Hi everyone one I just hope the AV's are'nt gonna give me the trouble that my Rex Begonias are..I'm killing them and been reading to see what I'm doing wrong, still no luck..I just gotta try to ignore them instead of looking at them 100 times a day.. ;o((

Loretta..

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes less care , less water is better . Main reason African violets die is from over watering. I let my wicks dry out in-between and pot light. But don't let the plants go bone dry. I think the trick is Lorretta is to neglect them some !

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Sounds great Nan :)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

HI Lorry :)) Nice seeing you ! Have you been on a date ! Hope your having a nice weekend !
