Broms made it through the cold

So far, although I kept them covered for the frosts and brought them in during the short freeze we had, most seem to be doing ok.

I've always been told this is a fingernail bromeliad, anyone have a different name for it?

MM,

We missed you last week.

I love your pots. Where did you find them.

Awww, thank you Leslie....I was SO looking forward to getting together with everyone. I'm sorry I had to miss it, but will catch up with you all on the next one. My pots are any old cheap round ball-style pot I can find, and then I spraypaint them with the hammered metal paint. One is actually a goldfish bowl I bought at a neighbors garage sale. Everywhere I go, I look for something round. I need to find a few more, I bought some red leaf colored Broms a few days ago.

Way cool idea! Thanks for sharing.

I have so many mismatched pots and I've been looking for a way to make them look more unified. I love yours! Could you give me some details about the hammered metal spray paint? Also, I've sooo been wanting to start a collection of bromelaids, but know nothing about them. Could you give a rookie some hints? Thanks a bunch!!

You can get the hammered metal spray paint anywhere that sells normal spray paint. It's just a nice decorater finish that happens all by itself (my kind of finish!) I just decided to go with round pot and vases, and make them all look the same with the paint.
Bromeliads are fairly easy to grow...here in Florida they're almost impossible to kill. They don't have much of a root system, so a little water in their inner cup, and they're good to go. There are so many different varieties and colors...some send up long stalks with their "bloom" on it. Some you admire because of the color of their leaves, and they don't have much to mention concerning their bloom at all.
Try a few, they come in so many different varieties and colors, that you end up hooked!
