Stinker is gone

Deer River, MN(Zone 3b)

Stinker was put to his final rest on Sat., Feb. 25 in the company of his mother, Molly, and his only other remaining, lifelong pasturemate, Ferouge. In spite of the fact that Stinker's abscessed hoof had healed to the point of painlessness, and in spite of the fact that he was able to move reasonably comfortably again, he still refused to eat on his own.

Stinker's final symptom was a very swollen and bleeding "sheath" in which Paul believed he palpated a growth. As Stinker was an aged grey, cancer was a probable diagnosis.

It's been more than 25 yrs since I've only had two horses standing in my barn. It just feels so empty now. I think the old grey mares feel the recent losses as keenly as do I.
