Hi Barbara,
What you got are rhizomes. Curcumas don't come up until later in the spring, so if you do plant them now don't water them. If they're watered too much while they're still dormant they will rot.
Mornign sun and afternoon filtered light or shade would be perfect conditons.
Where did you get your curcuma mangga?
That's one you can't find here in Florida (at least I haven't found it yet.
Don't plant too deeply, only one to two inches deep is all you need.
Once they sprout begin regular waterings and fertilize.

thank you liz. i got the mango ginger in a trade from an indian lady i found on gardenweb. if these come up i could send you one. so just put them in the dirt and leave them alone. since i have clay soil here should i mix in some garden sand to help the drainage. i prefer not to keep them in pots unless i just have to. too many plants as it is in pots. do you know the hardiness zone of these plants? i planted them too deep in the pots though so i will go out and bring them closer to the top. i read somewhere to plant gingers 4 inches. now if they are not up by early summer they are not coming up is that right? and when do they go dormant? thanks for helping. barb
