The Cape Honeysuckle never slowed at all all winter, and on warm days, the Monarchs come out.
Monarch on a Cape Honeysuckle
trois, that is beautiful! I'm looking forward to mine growing and really taking off this year. Mine did have some damage from a hard freeze we had a few weekends ago, but always was green, always had new foliage growing, and until that freeze it was blooming.
Thanks, maggie. I guess we are just a bit warmer here, but not a lot.
Yeah, you guys are just a little warmer, it's amazing the difference it can make!
The color of those flowers is really outstanding. Mine is "Red Admiral", the flowers are a deep red (at least in cold weather.)
Wow, that is a beautiful plant! Although I've heard/read the name, I don't think I've ever seen one.
We would buy more if we could find some. Last year Walmart sold them or tried to, as they were marked zone 11. Since no one bought they last year, they didn't order any this year. A friend in Florida sent me this one. It is still blooming like crazy. Said to be invasive in Florida, I would welcome invasive here at out place.

This photo is beautiful...How in earth did you get your cape honeysuckle to bloom so much? I planted our cape honeysuckle about a year ago. It has bloomed one or two blooms but nothing as spectacular as your plant.
I guess I am just being too impatient.
Thanks again for the beautiful photo,
Chuck
You are welcome, and thanks. It started blooming last year in July, and continued until about 3 weeks ago. I am waiting for it to start again. I have planted several more.

I am sorry to be late on this response but I forgot to check watch thread option. I have been told by people here in California that cape honeysuckle is invasive and takes over everything. However, for the last year, I have been able to prune it down to size about once every three months. It is now almost six feet tall and has two more feet of the trellis to go...LOL.
It is refreshing to hear someone say something good about cape honeysuckles.
Thanks again,
Chuck
For some reason the only invasive we have seems to be honeysuckle. Cape Honeysuckle does not seem to be invasive. At any rate, we have no invasives that are a problem. They are all easy to control with a little work.
Thanks.

Yea, Trois, that's beautiful! You do take the most beautiful photos.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks weegy12. Pretty flowers are such a treat to photograph. Most of the time they hold still.
