Looking for homemade ant/bee guards

This is my first year putting up HB feeders.I live on a giant ant hill (lol). I've looked at the ant guards the local retailers have and if I can figure out how to get by the guard these ants sure will.I'm pretty sure I don't want to go chemical for fear of not wanting to harm the wrong target.Any ideas out there?
