Dog that "fits the bill"

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

Looking for a dog that ...

Tolerates cats (not a lotta chase)
Gets along well with a tiny dog (9lb mini schnauzer)
Gets along well with horses (16.2H Thoroughbred - big boy)
Can stay outside 98% of the time (dog house provided, climate zone 9a, with LOTS of shade)
Barks at strangers, acts mean, but isn't going to attack anybody
Tolerates children (I don't have any, but have friends that do)
Not interested in trips to the groomer (schnauzer gets that), but I don't mind combing & semi-frequent baths
Don't mind some exercise, as long as they can get along with the horse, he/she is welcome to "help out" while I ride & work the horse almost daily
Size hope - 30-90 lbs - so from a good-size medium to a large dog

Can any of you with lots of breed-specific experience make some suggestions? Just bought a house with a perfect-fenced in part of the backyard (total yard is 5 acres, with most horse-pasture, a separate area with chain link fence for smaller-dog Allie & company, along with this rectangle-medium sized area that was fenced for goats by a previous owner). This extra fenced area (originally for the goats) has a big live oak tree at one end, and plenty of shade. I am interested in a good-barker that will help me feel "safe", as this house is *way* out in the country..

TIA,
Jennifer
