Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I have been taking away Spoken for plants and added new ones. I am hoping everyone will grow by leaf and someday also share with others !

Abilene, TX

You are so generous with your plants!!!!! I would love to come see your collection. : ) I am out of room right now, or I'd sure love more. I am hoping to get one more light for my stand next month, then I will transfer the ones you sent me over to the stand in my kitchen. They are doing pretty good by the window, but I think the light fixture is the key to blooming for me. Have a great day! Pam

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Hadfield..since you are in Texas..I could probably also send to you now.
Do you have the space babies? I have several of them ready to go.
Also...spindletop! Which is one of my favorite bicolored flowers :)
Rob's toorookas also ready to go and probably more.
I can also send you some leaf packets for shipping if you like.
I ship with insulation so they should be fine from FL to Texas.
If you would like..send me your address and I will get a box set up for you.
We can work out shipping once it is packed up ..weighed and ready to go :)

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

I've put down some leaves of Kid Karla and Pow Wow to share.
I don't think any of the other plants from Allison are big enough to take leaves from but when there are, I'll let everyone know. I did put down a couple leaves of Optimara Gaughan and another Optimara that I haven't been able to ID yet. I'm planning to buy some other AV's to put more leaves down to share.

Allison,
Will e. Teddy Bear root from a leaf? I have a broken one I don't want to wait if it will.
Jan...

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Well Teddy Bear could root by leaf but would take forever don't worry it will give you Stolens soon !
I don't have a large collection, I just grew a lot of babies by leaf and I don't have room in this tiny one bedroom single wide trailer for them.
I love growing by leaf though and SHaring !
I hope everyone will grow by leaf and share :))

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

Whoops,
I meant to say "waste" a leaf rather than wait.

Denver, CO

Whoah, I just watched 'Rob's Slap Happy' disappear!

Hotcakes, folks, Hotcakes...

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

What does steel blue look like?
LOL I guess I can look at FC when I get home :)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Steel Blue (8708) 03/04/1998 (R. Russell) Double medium blue frilled star. Medium-dark green, pointed, serrated. Large

Denver, CO

I posted a picture of it somewhere...

Denver, CO

It's first few flowers were a bit sad(see picture), but they are straiter and fuller than this now. "The best double blue!!!" said Allison. This plant was her mother plant.

Fresh pictures tonight after school,
Kenton

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Kenton it's very pretty but funny when the same plant was here it bloomed totaly different . lol Just shows how enviroments affect the bloom.
But Kenton yours looks more like FC picture. I thinmk mine looks like Bluebrid Greenhouse picture .

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Well no I take it back Bluebird s and First Class flowers look more like Kentons.
http://www.bluebirdgreenhouse.com/html/fimages/0402-1907-7920.jpg
So weird. When it bloomed for me they were like little double blue roses. And it bloomed all the times.
I know I could take a leaf grow three babies from it. And send three different people each a plant from the same leaf . And each one would grow different according to their enviroment.
This was mine but when they first open first week or two they were like little roses I do love the plant !

Thanks I got it free and fell in Love with it :))

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Oh Allison. What a great thing your doing. giving away your plants again.I'm sure we all appreciate them
and will share just like you do.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Thanks Jan ! Everyone should have the Joy of growing by leaf, new life babies. And see all the work and time 6-9 months sometimes longer to get a blooming plant from the time you set a leaf down.
And after all this amazement you can share the Joy your baby African violets with others or trades !

Denver, CO

Well, I thank you again Allison for these gorgeous plants. They must like where they are, as the bigger ones are all a-bloom.

'Steel Blue' as of two minutes ago. This newest flower is not cupped, as you cen see in older ones behind it. Note a solitary single as well.

'Optimara Millenia' (blurry, right) and 'Orchid trail' (top left with bud) are just starting. The latter is very exciting, not a pink that I had expected.

And finally, the tremendous trio.
'Fantasy Radiance' (right) is the fastest growing AV I have seen, and it is budding like it is mad. It was in a pot less than the size of one of its leaves last December. Don't tell anyone that I like a pink flower.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

oh my Kenton, you have the magic touch! The variegated one, who is that? YUMMY!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Doesn't here Laurie I was wow I want leaves of those plants, rather yet Kenton grow us all babies !

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Kenton I don't want to stray too far O/T but have you seen Naomi Campbell?
http://www.parkseed.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StoreCatalogDisplay?storeId=10101&catalogId=10101&langId=-1&mainPage=prod2working&ItemId=7215&PrevMainPage=advsearchresults&scChannel=Bulbs%20AS&SearchText=p16.v223&OfferCode=S1H

I got the catalog and the photo is beautiful! Made me think of you... Sure would be beautiful in a pot with some variegated glechoma trailing out! Whoo... getting faint!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - that millenia is beautiful! Could you get another shot of it?

Abilene, TX

Begonia, I thought you were talking SuperModel.....HA HA.........great way to start the morning. Naomi Campbell................... : )

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

I think she's a supermodel in the world of Calla's! the catalog photo is much better than the online one,

Denver, CO

Laurie, I'm afraid to say that 'Naomi' (technically without the "Campbell") is terrible! It is a weakish grower, pale stems, nice color, but the variegated leaf thing is a fluke of hormone overdose that a clever photographer made use of! The plant does not naturally grow that way. It was hit with soft rot one year, and I didn't replace it.
I strongly suggest to you 'Black Star' from Brent & Becky's Bulbs.

The dalmation thing is 'Space cadet,' A frost survivor.

'Millenia' is doing the funny cupped-flower thing, too I think, as it is still not yet flat. 'Royal Wasp' was repotted, bloomed a nice flush, and is now resting a bit, as the mildew is more aparent on it. Not to be a problem soon when it warms up. 'Rob's Argyle Socks' is growing bigger, and even growing another rosette, but still refuses to bloom at this point.

Now, I haven't been upstairs to check on them yet today, I have to go!
Kenton

Denver, CO

The real 'Naomi.'

Hopes dashed again! =(
Well the photo is nice, even if it is a pretend plant.

I had a space cadet from DP bargain sale, but as per my usual, I over watered the poor bugger!

Allison, I dmailed you yesterday in response to this post.

Space Cadet is simply fabulous! I'm so sad...I found my leaves of it rotted today. I could have just cried.

I'm trying to post a new thread to the forum, but it won't let me. I'll have pictures if it ever lets me post them.

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

Allison gave me a baby Space Cadet and it is one of my favorites of the bunch but of course I am a sucker for variegates.

I stopped by Lowes on the way home from work tonight and they had 8 Optimara on the clearance rack for 1.34 so I took all 8 home. Only 3 are blooming so ID's will have to wait.
They were absolutely drowning in water. One was so bad that when I removed the plastic surrounding the pot, it complete fell apart, rotted at the crown. The leaves appear salvageable if I amputate the rotted part of the stem. I figure they can give me some good practice in leaf rooting since I am pretty new to it all.

Jan...

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Jan Isolate those plants for a good 2-3 months or you could lose your whole collection. Mites, and mealies, and more can not be seen without 3X power. Important everyone Isolate. Nursery and store plants will have more things wrong with them.
Amy did I send you Space Cadet leaves ? I have more and maybe another baby .
DG's is not working right .

Denver, CO

That's how I got started, Jan, less the rotten part. It so often happens in places of sale, not places of plants. I hope your leaves are all a success. There are buds on one of my old noids that has not had flowers since its acquisition- I'm pleased.

I have not been able to start a new D-mail, either.

'Orchid Trail' is 90% open, I'll get pictures when it's there. I could get a closeup of the funny 'Millenia.'
K

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

Thanks Allison,
I will keep them separate.
