questions about leaf cuttings

Lilburn, GA

hi!

I read Bob's instructions on the sticky but still have some questions:

After the cutting is done and potted, does it go inside a plastic bag?

Do I use a heating mat under leaf cuttings?

Thank you

I put my cuttings under a humidity dome with a heat mat underneath set to 74 degrees. Of course, I've only done one leaf http://lakehousecreations.com/Gesneriads.htm But I have some more down since I had success with Hector

It's useful to put your cuttings (suckers too) into a plastic bag (which I'm pretty sure Rob's instructions say to do) or under a dome to hold in some humidity, but you might need to poke a hole or two for ventillation too. If you see just a bit of condensation on the inside of the plastic, that's about right, but if you start seeing lots of condensation forming bigger water droplets, then things need to dry out a bit... condensation forming on the leaves themselves can lead to rot... likewise, you don't want the foliage to touch the plastic bag/dome or (if possible) the edge of the plastic pot.

Heat mats are optional if your temps are at least above 65, although warmer temps will speed things along.

All my leaves are grown in 3 oz. solo cups , drainage hole placed in clear plastic boxes and under or in light kept warm , I do not cover or grow them in green houses anymore last Winter they died or just stood there . This year they got good air circulation, fed , warm and lots of light they grew like weeds. I grew about one thousand babies this year all adopted out !
Edit they are grown in soiless-mix 60 percent perilite
