Everyone:
I have been dabbling with good success in gardening since I bought my first home in 1996. Now on my second home (and wife, lol), and after reading countless books/articles, I stumbled across this site. I immediately joined and love the information I have found so far, especially with respect to the mail order companies.
A bit about me: From Cleveland originally, moved to Columbus area a few years ago and built a home three years ago. I’m excited to have all this landscaping to work with, flowers to buy, and new ideas to try. Boring, but true, but some of my favorite things are bulbs and green lush thick lawns. Starting to branch out with roses and trees now, and other assorted flowers. Looking forward to good discussions here and giving/getting advice as well. I’m Michael. Nice to meet you all.

Another Ohio-ian (is that what we are?) makes the scene.
Hi Mike,
Welcome aboard! You can post photos of your lawn I won't mind.
I think we are all diverse gardeners here.

mike - welcome from the mid hudson valley in upstate n.y.
Hi Mike,
Welcome to DG. I live in Reynoldsburg too. I was born in Cleveland, lived in Canton and moved to Reynoldsburg in 1965 when I was a junior in high school. I spent a number of years in California and Seattle and then returned to Reynoldsburg in 1989. My passion is flowers with a few veggies thrown in.
Have you discovered the Ohio River Valley Gardening (ORVG) Forum yet? You definitely belong there - lots of good people dealing with similar growing conditions. A Roundup in the Southern Ohio area is in the planning stages. It is a great way to meet people and get some wonderful plants. You can find the information in the ORVG forum.
Chris Baker of Baker's Acres nursery in Alexandria is a member here (gooddoldbake). If you haven't been to his nursery you must go. It is great.
I look forward to seeing you on DG. Have fun!
Candy
Thanks Candy for the info. I'll join that Ohio forum and see you around.
Mike
Mike-- good to have you signed up on DG (and the ORV Forum)!
I get to Reynoldsburg from time to time-- a lovely town and there are some great daylily and perennial enthusiasts in that area east of Columbus (right, NoH2O2?).
Can't wait to see pics of the progress going on in your 'yarden'.
Moi? Enthusiastic about plants? NEVER!!
I see you have changed my name from no water to no hydrogen peroxide. I am flattered that you think I am a natural blonde. Only my hairdresser knows for sure and if he opens his mouth I'll kill him. LOL
hi mike .we are buckeyes lol
hello and welcome...
LOL-- now I will have to get over there to Reynoldsburg! My favorite antiques dealer is there, too. Can't remember his name, though!
Hi and welcome from Carolina!
Silly me. I forgot that we are buckeyes. Living so close to Columbus, how could I forget that??
Anyway, thanks to everyone for all the 'hellos'.
Mike
Hey, Mike - welcome from another Ohioan.
As for NoH2O, we call her Zilchwater (a former member came up with that one and it made my husband and I laugh out loud). I like the idea of No hydrogen peroxide, too, Candy!
Too late, Kim! I went in last week for my semi-annual mega-dose of H2O2. Shhhh....don't tell anyone.... LOL
NoH2O - What part of Reynoldsburg are you in? I'm in the Licking County part and I'm allegedly zone 6a. Can Reynoldsburg be split that fine with respect to zones??
By the way, I think we're Ohioans.
I bet the zones do split, because as far as I can see, I am in zone 5 of Licking County in Newark.
Apparently it can. I am right by Main and Rosehill. We were told (by the original owners of the farm that was turned into our subdivision in the 60's) that this was the highest spot in Franklin county. It had a lot of wild roses and apparently is a hill (hence the name Rosehill?) so maybe it is true and the elevation creates a colder zone. Doesn't seem particularly high to me. LOL
Edited to say:
Kim, aren't we Buckeyes?

That's crazy because I'm off of Summit Street, just down the road from Summit Station, but in Reynoldsburg - still in Licking County however. Some maps say zone 5, but the maps that are more finely split, put me in 6a. Go figure.
We're Buckeyes unless you pronounce it like the farm reporter on WRFD used to: Big-Eye Farm Report. LOL
Mike, my sister lives off Summit St near Broad. She is in Pataskala just across the street from Reynoldsburg. Small world, hey?
The Big-Eye Farm Report....where was that reporter from?
Small world indeed.
