Guelph's Christmas (9120) 04/20/2002 (J. Brownlie/Guelph University) Semidouble-double fuchsia large frilled star/thin white-green edge. Medium green, quilted, glossy, wavy, serrated/red back. Large
My Guelph's Christmas I got last Sept./October from Violet Gallery. I have given so many leaves away. And put some down and gave many babies away ( they grow super fast).
Well my plant is in a 4 inches pot . The leaves are large but not 12 inches across yet but the nice roots are growing out the holes in the bottom of the pot !( A lot of the too) So I guess it will have to go into a 5, 5.50 or 6 inch pot ? What do you think ? I don't have any I'll have to buy some. I don't even keep many 4 inch as I have mostly babies or minis.
I have this happen to a baby Martin but it was large in a 2 inch pot and the roots were growing around the wick. It was 9 inches across always blooming. The root system was so strong It had to go into a 4 inch pot from the 2 inch as it grows so fast too.
But I have never had a plant in a 4 inch pot grow so fast out of it.
Guelph's Christmas
Holy cow :) way to grow mom!
Violet, are there many mini varieties? Are there any smaller than minies?
Where can I find a good place to buy minis? Sorry for kidnapping your thread.
Spider there are some MIcros under 3 inch but not many and none in First Class. I grow several miniatures in 1 inch pots. Optimara sells great Miniatures ! They use to sell them in one inch pots but now two inch pots. If you go to our Sticky you will find a whole list of Vendors that sell Miniatures and Semi-Miniatures. I already placed an Order in Jan for Spring shipping from Violet Gallery for some Minis.
Miniatures also take longer to root by leaf and harder. They grow slower.
Miniatures are harder to care for and take more special care and harder for the Novice so best too try a few to start with. They need less watering but more often, the sucker more, they need re-potting and grooming more, they will not forgive you if you let them dry out nor if you over water them. They need a good feeding and watering program, more light. There is lots of information in the Stickys about growing Miniatures also !
There are micro minis but those are just SMALL minis :) I don't believe they have a class of their own :) they are just labeled that when they are tiny :)
I believe there are TONS of minis :)
First Class has over Two Thousand Miniatures and Semi-Miniatures.
They are not all easy to find nor are they always easy to care for. They take extra care.
Allison, you gave me a G. Christmas. Will post a picture when it blooms. It is really fun to watch a plant bloom when you don't know ahead of time what it will look like. : )
Nice baby growing Jan Yippi your a good Mom. :))
Pam mine the Mom plant I got last Sept/Oct. from Violet Gallery has grown so fast and is always blooming. I am going to have to buy a 5 or 6 inch pot as it has tons of roots coming out of it's 4 inch pot.
I only had this happen oncebefore to me when baby The Martin wasp plant was growing so fast in a two pot the roots were wrapping around the wick lol.( It was and still is in natural light and seemed to happen over night. lol) It was always blooming. The root system was so large I had to pot it from two inch pot to 4 inch ! And it has never stopped blooming :))
I can't wait Pam to see your's blooming !
