I once saw a bed of regular type Amaryllis that a woman had been growing outdoors in metro Atlanta for years. My mother planted one in north Mississippi and it came back the next spring. I plan on planting some. Does anyone know if they're attractive to voles? (I hope not.) The University of Georgia has a fact sheet on growing them: http://pubs.caes.uga.edu/caespubs/horticulture/amaryllis.html
Amaryllis: Growing in the Ground?
I had moles, and no, the amaryllis did not attract voles. They were right near the mole holes too.
I grow many amaryllis outside, no problem. As long as you keep the bulb raised up, and I also keep the soil it is in above the other soil. I should take a photo of this method. I'm growing more amaryllis from seed to try them as well...

I think that moles only eat grubs, and do not bother the bulbs ,BUT,chipmonks use their tunnels, and do they ever.
Yes, moles may disturb plants by hunting for grubs, but voles will eat bulbs, the crowns of hostas and other plants.
