Retusa says "good moring"

Los Angeles, CA(Zone 9a)

Woke up today to find retusa in bloom. Just received this plant as a cutting in the late summer. Grown completely under artifical light, used Awanda's foxfarm potting mix suggestions. Enjoy!

Oh Heather that is so cute! I brought my Retusa in from the greenhouse and put it under grow lights, hopefully I'll have a bloom too!!

I'll say!!
You *are* having a successful blooming winter, aren't you, Heather!!

Now that's another one I've heard of but not yet seen (until now!)

And another with 'funky foliage' that I'm just gonna have to find, now!!

Way to go, Heather! It's so pretty! I have seen that hoya for sale but wasn't really sure if it tripped my trigger - - but your picture TRIPPED IT! Another "gotta git". =0)

I really love this hoya. I really want to take some cuts off of it to make it a bigger plant. Unfortunately, mine is really small. I am having a good bloomin winter, odd isn't it??
Heather

What a nice little flower! Such unusual leaves too. Thanks for sharing!

Heather, great growing, I am going to take a magnifying glass to my small plant that I got last fall. I look at it daily, so I don't think the magnifying glass is going to find buds, but I will give a try anyhow. How exciting to have yours bloom so soon. I am so happy for you.

Do our 2 resident 'pimpettes' (as they've been called, lol!) have this one?

I like that one, the foliage is so unusual.

I love H. retusa it´s so beautiful. And it has bloomed the hole winter at my place :) Just love it! I counted to 15 buds on it right now and the flowers has a very nice scent, and they´re so cute :) Good luck with your plant :)

Oh, hoya_marie...your plant is *fabulous*!

What size is that basket?

This one kind of resembles a Rhipsalis....another group of plants I'm partial to....all the more reason I'd like to find one.

Does it seem to be an easy plant to care for, or is it fussy?

Does anyone know of any sources of where to purchase this one?

Wowzers! That is definitely a cool plant!! I would never think it was a hoya. Nan, we got to find one like this!

This is such a beautiful plant. Where did you get it?

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

AHA HP#2 here. I have H. retusa but cannot say it has been one of my success stories! I find it difficult...but then, I water a lot and I hear it wants dry. I keep trying, tho!!! :>)

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Oh, geez....if Carol has trouble with it......I'm prolly doomed if I get this one!!

Hoya's never cease to amaze me! Gorgeous plants ladies. :)

I just got a retusa, a nice full plant like the one above. I'm also curious if anyone has any good tips for this plant - does it like light, warmth, misting, being left to dry out?!?

Any help would be most appreciated. I recieved it in a big mess so I had to repot it and added in some perlite and vermiculite as the soil was very peaty (I think). I hope it will be ok, as it's very cold here now, and my heating's gone a bit up the spout (and not, it seems, into most of my radiators!!).

Nan...once I started growing my H. retusa drier and hotter...it began a happy life with lots of growth and blooms. This one does not like to be soggy AT ALL. Hills, the warmest place in your house will be high up close to the ceiling....try it there...but it also likes light. I grow mine with the dry loving Dischidia....

I gave my retusa to my brother because it didn't grow anything! Now it has grown A LOT and has buds... I guess retusa wasn't for me, but it thrives at my brothers house!

Very nice photo, Heather!

I'm glad you brought this thread 'back to life', hills, as I recently got a H. retusa plant and some cuttings, as well.

Thanks so much for that advice, Carol....so good to know!!
So into my hot/dry south window she goes!

Christina....can you tell us what the differences are between the culture it received and your house and what it receives now at your brothers?
Got the brother hooked on hoyas, too, did you? LOL!!;)

Way to go, Nan! You lucky girl!!

Sorry Nan, didn't see this until today... Yes, I got my brother hooked on hoyas too and all the hoyas I don't want anymore move to his house. That way I still have them in a way!

I think when I had the retusa I had it warmer than it gets at my brothers house and he has it above his kitchen sink and the humidity must be higher there than what I gave it here. Only speculations, but...

Thanks, Christina!
I have the perfect place then...a little 'glass block' window above my kitchen sink that gets pretty cool at night.
I'll try one of my rooted cuttings that way and see what happens!

(Thanks, Donna...if she 'grows good' maybe I can share her in the future.)
