Please read the list of wanted seeds below carefully. I am not offering or trading for anything else at this time.
Am offering up twelve seed trades (one dozen seeds each) of this extremely rare Yellow Morning Glory vine (ipomoea ochracea). These seeds originated from Reunion Island (west of Madagascar) and I have been growing them for several years now. You will not find these seeds for sale in any mail order catalog - at least none that I'm aware of :o)
I had my 'mother vine' for 35 months in a small pot on my backporch and am sure she would have continued to live except she got zapped by a freak freeze/snowfall in Dec. 2004. I have other vines growing around the yard that are 1 to 3 years old. They put out lots of foliage in April and start blooming in the fall - late September or October and continue to bloom throughout Spring and Summer - well in south Texas anyway :o)
The tendrils on this species grow extremely long! I have found vines running all along my fence and several tendrils snuck under my side gate and latched onto another trellis I have about twenty feet from the main stalk. I haven't tried letting these grow up the telephone pole...but it is a thought!!!
I would like butterfly friendly seeds in bulk (30 grams or more) of any listed: ** please see edited note at the bottom of this post **
Agastache
Bee Balm (monarda spp)
Guara (guara lindeheimeri/spp)
Salvia
Sedum
Zinnia
-- or --
Hollyhocks - tall variety only - any color/normal trade amount
Fragrant Corkscrew Vine (vigna caracalla) - 1:1 ratio
Vining Sweet Pea (lathyrus odoratus spp) - 24 seeds please
Vining Snapdragon (asarina/antirrhiniflora maurandya) - NOT purple (two seed heads)
Please send D-mail only if you have any of the seeds listed in the quantity mentioned :o)

** ps...
Ohhhhh, I didn't realize how much 30 grams of hollyhocks is a cup worth. Oh my, that is a lot.
I guess I was thinking of what would fill a 2x3 seed baggie - not sure of the gram weight...but I know when I buy big seed packages of common seeds at the garden center they come in 8 gram package.
So I figured a 3X or 4X trade of common seeds like the zinnias and holly hocks and such is a fair trade for these rare ones. The salvia and much smaller seeds like vining snapdragon should constitute at least 4X a normal trade as well.
Something hard to come by like vigna caracalla would go one for one.
Am not trying to be picky but just figured zinnias, hollyhocks, sweet peas and such put out lots of seeds and they are easily harvested. Hopefully there are traders who have those in bulk amounts to share.
These seeds are not found in garden centers or mail order catalogs and I don't think anyone else has offered them up for trade. I don't think it would be fair to trade a dozen of these rare ones for a regular package of common seeds either...that's why I asked for a bit more of the common seeds.
I am trying to fill in a large area back at the ranch with an assortment butterfly nectar plants in time for Spring. There are acres and acres of native brush and dried grass...so the butterflies need all the help they can get.

have few zinnia's also salvia. few others.
Hello,
While I love fence morning glories and would consider a trade, I gathered
30 grams of Hollyhock seeds and was quite shocked at how many seeds
that represents. It is well over one full cup of Hollyhock seeds.
The last of my Bee Balmin bulk, in a full 2 x 3 bag, didn't even register on the scale.
Just double checking here, you do mean 30 grams, yes? :-)
An option for those wishing for the yellow morning glory-type flower but
unable to participate in the trade, Merremia aurea may be an option.
:-)

I don't have the seeds, but I have the plants. Honestly if you are willing to wait for 3 more weeks this is (in my opinion) a better option. I am willing to send a small box ~$4-5 postage with a few plants if you are interested.
I have:
Salvia Maynight
Monarda Marshall's Delight
Quite a few different sedums (I can send images).

Care for any Lantana? Butterflies flocked around mine by the dozens this past summer. It's a fast growing shrub/bush and can get 4 to 6 feet high, are drought tolerant and deer- resistant and prefer full sun, but can take partial shade. They can be invasive, but there hasn't been a problem with that in my neighborhood. Several of us have had a bush or two for several years. I have half a pint-sized jar full of seeds.

Have you considered purple prairie clover? It's very attractive to butterflies and it's native to the great plains so it doesn't need much care. I have about 4oz of seed from a comercial source that I could trade. It's a couple of years old but it's been in cold storage and should be viable.

I can offer a snack size sandwich baggy of mixed Zinnias, from my own garden. They are pinks, white, cream, yellow, a couple "Envy's" & some are "cut & come again" variety. You can never have too many Zinnias!
I can offer red Bee Balm plants in Spring. If not for this trade, then perhaps for another trade when Spring comes. The Hummingbirds & butterflies love them, & they transplant easily.
I have never seen a yellow Morning Glory ! How do you prevent them from cross-pollinating with other colored MG's? I am just curious - although I am certain the cross would prove interesting.

I have a package of "Agastache" Apricot Sprite.. It is one I bought and it contains 40 seeds.. Would you like them? Email me..I would love some of the yellow mg..

Hi Cat,
I have the Fragrant Vigna seeds. I have the ochracea plant and will be planting it outside soon but I wouldn't mind a few fresh back up seeds. I have seeds from the original batch I got from Reunion but I'm not sure how viable they are.
