CLOSED: Have monkey balls (air potatoes)

Moss Point, MS(Zone 8b)

Last year I responded to a request for them and was astonished at how many people jumped in wanting some. It was late in the season, I'd forgotten them, they had started growing and looked like garbage. I was embarrased to send them out. That was the start of trading for me and of course I loved it.

I gathered them up last fall so I could offer them, and this time before they start growing.

For postage or for trade.

Hi Twiggy,
I would love some for postage as at this time of year I don't have much to trade. Thank you for the offer!

Depending on your locale, I would be very cautious about adding this plant to a garden. You may want to read all the comments and lively debate about this plant in the DG Plant Files to determine if this plant is right for you.

In my area, it is a highly invasive alien plant that can completely suffocate native trees and shrubs with about the same effect as kudzu. It was growing in my garden when I bought my property three years ago and I will probably never be completely free of it. But comments posted in the Plant Files page by others state that it dies back or is not invasive in some northern climates.

I have all of you covered so far. I'll be in touch.

Hi Sandy. I kept up with your adventures through the hurricane horrors. So glad we're both still kicking. I'll never recover from Katrina but my plants remain a comfort and joy. All of yours are alive and well.

Jeremy I don't think any of these folks will have a problem. I live about 7 miles from the Gulf and they aren't a problem here. I try to collect all the balls. I start collecting in early fall and that makes them even more productive until first frost which kills the vines. I always miss a few which start to sprout when the weather warms. They're very easy to spot and destroy. I store the balls in the garage in an onion bag. It doesn't freeze. I don't think the yanks will have any outdoor survivors.

Hi twiggy,
Can you please put me on your list. I would love to get some from you, all the ones that I have grown have never come back, each year I ask for more. I have some red crocosima and white spider lillie bulbs, may have a couple of other bulbs, gotta check.. also have naked ladies bulbs.

I have eight "customers" and I think that will wipe out my surplus. If there are more, I will reopen the offer. It has been a pleasure and I wish all of you Happy Gardening.
