Queen's Tears, Friendship Plant 'Mini'
Billbergia nutans

Queen's Tears, Friendship Plant, "Mini Form" Billbergia Nutans has blooms that look like other Billbergia nutans plants' blooms; however, they are much smaller as is the plant.

Great photo! Very pretty flowers too, these are one of my new passions, I have just bought a variegated one, very nice!

Thank you. I have never seen a varieagated one in person before. This one does not grow as large as the other types of Billbergia nutans. Mine has not developed a lot of offshoots as do the other types. I have had it for over a year and it only produced 3 pups. Perhaps it needs more light. I have it in the house near a north facing window which doesn't receive a lot of bright light except in the summer. The leaves are not as long and do not curve over as much as the other types of B. nutans. It is more "upright. I might place it outside or in the greenhouse to determine if it will then grow faster. The spines are more very stiff and when running your finger over them up the edge of the leaf, they are pretty sharp. Thanks again for your comments.

Finally got back to answer! Got a pic, I got this from ebay here (a small nursery), did find a couple of others selling it, it is huge, only cost £4.50 + 1.50 carr.

perhaps I now have material for a deal with schimperiana?

What a great plant! The varigation adds sooo much to the beauty of the leaves. That was a nice price for it too. Thanks for showing it to me. I just repotted my 'Mini' and am placing it outside so it can receive more light now that the temperatures are warming up a bit after the coldest days we have had. Frozen mist and drizzle covered all of my plants in the wee hours of Sunday morning. Not much appears to be damaged and in fact the thin sheet of ice protected the plants from the 29 degree (F) low by keeping them at 32 degrees (F).
