The trunk of this pine tree from a closer look.

This looks much more like a Ponderosa trunk than Canariensis. I have 5 large Canary Island Pines (canariensis) in my yard, and they are on practically every street in this part of Southern California (area around Ontario-Chino-Upland). Their bark is not as flat and is much darker brown to almost charcoal black where the sun hits it. The grooves are much deeper - as much as 3/4 inch on larger trees.

The Ponderosas grow at much higher elevations (upward of 4000 feet) while the Canariensis grow in the valleys. Ponderosa has an almost "jigsaw" apperarance, as in the photo.

You know what? I think you are right! I know Ponderosa Pine tree since I lived in Southern California for a couple of years but when I saw this tree at a park, it had the botanical name writen on a badge. That's why this picture is in the Canary Island Pine file.
I needed somebody to increase my "dobt" and here you are!

Thanks a lot!

Mmm... how do we report the error?

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Usually you would send a report using the red Report an Error button that's in the top right of each PlantFile entry, but since I noticed this, you can just tell me here what entry the photo should be moved to and I can do that.

OK! Thanks a lot! I did what you suggested and I reported the error.
Have a nice day.

We didn't get the error report. Do you know what the ID of your plant is? Just let me know here and I can move the photo to the correct entry.

Oh, yes! The picture of the trunk belongs to Pinus ponderosa and not to Pinus canariensis.

Thanks Joe!

The photo has been moved.
