found bugs at Loew's today

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

stopped by Lowe's..(not my favorite anyway) not only are their prices about $2.00 above everyone else...but when i lifted the begonias....several bugs including white flies started their routine....so allison and the rest of you are very correct...inspect..and isolate new plants...geeze...would never buy from them again....this was on the inside with other of the Exotic Angel plants...suspect the clerk haven't a clue to what any of the plants are..etc.

I'm telling you I don't care where or whom you buy or get your plants from Isolate. You can not see mite, mealies and on and on. Sometimes the plant does not show damage for months even a year while their hanging out blooming pretty damaging your expensive collection. Lowes, HD nurseries are the worst . It's like going to the Hospital to get better but it's full of germs and you get stat , strep ir worst.

allison..you are so correct..and the hospitals are some of the worse..especially with strep....and you know i would NEVER buy a cyclamen plant...they are simply notorious for bugs....i was struck with the terrible condition of Lowe's today however...

That's what I mean buy a plant and don't isolate it , is like us going and hanging out in the hospital sleeping over a few days. We get sick, you bring the plants home from HD , lowes Ebay , any where isolate or your other plants may die,

I did buy a cyclamen over Christmas.... couldn't resist... but I've been keeping it well away from everything else. It is hanging out with the increasingly ratty looking poinsettia in the far corner of the family room.

i can only speak from experience...but INSIDE..at least...cyclamen's can be a big mistake!!

Always nice to learn from someone else's experinces than all our own mistakes. Help out some !

well with a name like Cyclamen mites....?....must have some connection?

But it's such a pretty plant, even after it has finished blooming... sigh... I guess I could gift it to a neighbor. It is pretty far away from everything else except the poinsettia, and I've been careful to wash after handling it so I don't move bugs around (not that I've seen the slightest evidence of bugs, or it would have gone straight down the dispose-all).

it is a very pretty plant....BUT....i understand what you mean..
