What'd I do wrong?

Columbus, OH(Zone 6a)

My little goldfish, Finnigan, just died. I noticed he wasn't eating much, starting last night. I just walked into the bathroom and he was lying on the bottom of the bowl, dead. I'm so depressed. I know he was just a little fish, but he was very pretty, and I hate the thought that he died on "my watch", so to speak.

I had read that goldfish need feeding 3 times a day, so I had been doing that. Did I feed him too much? I cleaned his bowl once a week. And I measured to bowl and made sure it was big enough for a fish his size.

The only two things I can think is that I caught his tail when I was scooping him out o the bowl to clean it Sunday. Could I have injured him? Also Hazel my cat had taken to drinking out of the bowl once in awhile. Could she have contaminated the water?

I was really enjoying the little bowl with the plant and fish in it. I thought it was a nice addition to the bath decor, but maybe I just shouldn't try to keep a fish in a bowl. I wish I knew what I did wrong.

Here's a picture of Finnigan and Hazel, in better days.
