We have a very chilly morning of -8 here this AM. Brrrrrr Supposed to only get to a high of +3 which is still 3-4 degrees colder than normal for this time of year. Hang in there, Camillias, Roses and Rhodos!
Don
How cold are you this morning?
Oh minus 8. Boo Hoo. Frost crystals on everything this morning. Was supposed to go to -28 last night. Current temp is -29C. Winter is back and doing fine here, thank you very much.
High of +6 today in Victoria, supposed to go down to -2 tonight. Clear sky, amazing stars and planets due to lack of streetlights.
There is some talk of snow ---- but who knows.
Inanda
Today it's +2 in Blyth, near Goderich and Lake Huron. Tomorrow it's supposed to be +4.
--Ginny
Currently 1 °F / -17 °C
with :b Windchill: -28 °C (-18 °F )
It's 4°C right now, but it was freezing last night. I know that's not cold compared to some of you, but it's cold for me!!!
Was -28ºC here this morning. Calling for the same tonight.
I think our low tonight here in Kodiak AK is going to be about 45 F. It is nice up here. Hang in there all you borderline plants. Pile the snow all around.
No snow here to pile all around. But the forcast low overnight was -14. Thank God it only went down to - 6. Thats bad enough.
Looks like Colorado is dealing you easterners a dirty blow with their storm Low headed your way. Hang in there.
Don
i just looked at the Calgary weather site(have not taken the dogs out yet) it says -23 and real feel -34!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good advice, soferdig. I'll be pulling extra snow over the spot where I have my Royal fern, to protect it from the -28C we're expecting tomorrow.
Your photo of the games room was so 'cultural' of Alaska. Post more!
Wish there was enough snow to pile on the plants - not going to happen this winter I guess. I didnt even shovel this moprning just used tht broom to sweep the sidewalks clean! Even the dogs were occasionally running on 3 feet when we went for our walk.
I was out pruning this afternoon, in, I think, around - 3C......for about 2 hours, than ran back into the snuggy comfort of our home...roasted weiners for Hot Dogs with my grand-daughter outside........then headed back in...........getting cooollllddd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 E
-47 degree Celsius = -52.6 degree Fahrenheit currently here.
So what plants are gonna survive this without snowcover??? :(
Campanula rapunculoides? and Aegopodium podagraria?
Don't think I have either one......wait a minute........unless *Campanula rapunculoides* is also known as *Hell's Bells*??? http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/475/ Oh I'm pretty sure it is. D@$%!!! Mine was ID'ed incorrectly.
After a search I also have the other (but it's contained): http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/24922/

Ageopodium makes you hate any bishop. but I doubt it will thrive next year. Note plant it where the deer hang out and it stays in control. I plant all aggressives out with the deer and they make it small.
Yep mine died back quite a bit when we had temps over 100 F last year. I don't go out of my way to water it. ;)
Yes, that is your favourite Pam. What did you think yours was? There are still people deliberately planting these. Oh well, they are pretty. And every year I see Bishop's weed for sale at a couple of garden stores. Suppose it's still considered a ground cover. Don't think it's been banned or anything.
Can't blame you for being worried about your perennials. This will certainly show you which are the hardy ones. Not to worry, gardeners are a sharing lot, and when you are ready you know where there are lots of plants waiting for new homes.
Thanks echoes. :) I think I'll continue with my extermination plans re: Hell's Bells this summer before I introduce anything more. I'm pretty sure it was brought into this yard eons ago so I'm not expecting it to be eradicated soon. Somebody named my little devil a Campanula but I don't think they had the right species. Figures the cold won't kill it. :(
