I would like to make some hanging baskets for my patio.
I found a couple of baskets, made for paperwork, that I plan to convert into hanging baskets.
Anybody use other things as hanging baskets? Photos?
Will also post in Frugal living.
Looking forward to some great ideas!

Hanging pots or basket ideas?
Not quite sure what you're looking for here: unique and pretty, or just cheap. If it's cheap, I bought about 1/2 dozen at the dollar store for $1 each. They're just plain old plastic hanging pots, about 10 or 12 inches in diameter. Not especially pretty but certainly functional. I also bought a large planter for $2. Can't go wrong.

I thought about using those 3 tier kitchen baskets made of metal. You could put trimmed down fiber liners in them and since they're mesh like perhaps root things through the undersides as well. Gotta experiment a bit....
Does anyone that has used the fiber liners, how do you keep the water from draining thru? Could you line it with a small amount of plastic bag? I really struggled trying to keep it moist last year.
You could try adding those water absorbing crystals in the soil. Wet them first and let them expand fully BEFORE adding to the soil. I added them dry the first time I tried them and after I watered I had gross jiggly globs sticking up all over the place. A little goes a long way:) Or the potting soil that already has the crystals in it, can't remember the company but the bag is blue and white, probably Miracle Grow. I'm in an apartment with no outdoor water access so I understand the pain of constant watering:)
