This is lil' Sheba. She was born on Tuesday, one week after the other little babies. The momma only had one baby, and lil Sheba was born as big as the other babies are at one week old! She is a purebread mutt - and has the most adorable personality!
another new baby!
my kids [human] & I enjoyed your pictures!!! that third one should be entered in a contest ;-)
She is adorable. and you can't post too many pictures as far as I'm concerned.
I should be having a second round of goat babies in a week or two.. They are so fun.. I love to watch them play.
What is it about baby things? Such a sweet little one...
Thanks ya'll. I was starting to think maybe I just got carried away with all my baby pictures and was boring everyone. I could spend hours watching them play - it is so hard to get anything done when I go out back. KathyJo - I am anxious to see pics of your new babies!
She's so cute. I used to raise dairy goats and pygmy goats, these boers look like something in between, sort of stocky and better coordinated right away than the dairy goats which had gumby legs for a couple of days. The pygmy kids could get up on a straw bale the first day, it took until the third day for the dairy goats. Turn that tub over and she will play king of the mountain with the other kids. Mine had some big rocks to play on. Even the grown goats loved to play on the rocks and that pretty much kept their feet trimmed.
Hello, I need information quickly. Have new pygmy goat babies (twins boys named A-Rod and Jeter). The lady who used to do the debudding (with electric burning rod) is going out of the business and I'm not sure I could use the hot-rod!
I had a dairy-man tell me to use the cautic-paste when the nubs are tiny, hold the baby for 30-45 minutes, rinse his head with cool water and vinegar and let him return to his mommy. I've read SO MUCH about how CRUEL the paste is....is it really more painful than the hot-iron???? I need to hear from people who have used the paste and like it (how did you make it successful and 'comfortable' for the little guys?) and even from those who tried it and decided against it and why.
Thank you! Please write soon.
hmstyl, you've really upped the "aawwww..." factor! How adorable.
biggered, I hope there's a painless way to accomplish that!
biggered, I sure wish I could help you but I let my goats keep their horns! I figure if God made them that way, who am I to change it? Besides, I find it a lot easier to hold on to them by the horns when I need to, it is pretty hard to hold on to a full size goat with nothing to grab on to when I want to trim their hooves or something. Little Sheba in the picture I started this thread with is a year old now, and she still doesn't have any horns. She just didn't grow any. Her mother had her horns burned when she was little, before I got her, and her daddy had horns, I just don't know why Sheba never grew any.
Sorry, I'm not much help here.
Cindy
