Hi all,
A landscaper I recommended yanked my client's favorite Leonotis...... YIKES!!! Do any of you have a couple small plants I can trade for? I have lots of things, I'm sure we can find something you would like!
thanks!
Karen :~)
Wanted.....Leonotis leonurus starts
Karen I just started some seed today. If you don't find any check back with me in about a month
Thank you so much Donna, will do!
Karen
oh Karen I wasn't paying attention to what I read. It is Leonorus Nepateafolia I started. offer still stands if they make and you want some.
Also check e-bay for it from Ron. That's who I got my Leo Leo from last year dirt cheap. He has the best stuff. He doesn't have any listed right now but check each week. He list things as they start coming out of dormancy. Not sure if he is still carring it and I lost mine to Hurricane Katrina. e-Bay seller Dogwooderitternet if you do an e-Bay search for passifloria his listings should come up. He is selling bunches of them right now

Donna, I will be starting both if you want some more. :) I should have lots of fun stuff ready to go in April or May.
No worries Donna. :~) But now I'm confuzzled. Leonotis.....Leonurus. There's also a Leonotis leonurus (!), Leonotis nepetifolia, Leonotis menthifolia, Leonurus japanica, Leonurus cardiaca, Leonurus sibiricus, Leonurus marrubiastrum and on and on. I think the guy I want is Leonotis leonurus. Regular ol' Lion's Ear....the one that should grow here. I think, actually, my area may be borderline for it, but it was growing well in her yard so she must be in a microclimate.
I went to the client's house yesterday to see what the landscaper had accomplished. The plant was still laying there, wilted but not dead so I took some cuttings. If they don't work can I trade you for a plant or two later on Badseed?
K
Just in case it could help, L. nepetifolia is an annual and L. leonurus is a perennial, both have the same inflorescence but the L. leonurus has slender foliage.
I play well with others. LOL
Kachina, anyway of taking a picture of a leaf or flower head? How are your drawing skills? LOL
lol I always say it backwards
I took some cuttings a few days ago and I have a few seeds left. I've never had good luck with the cuttings though.
Definitely a woody perennial, the plant was 4' tall, I did not see it in bloom but recognized the seed heads. Leaves are lanceolate, margins are crenate to dentate with some portions being entire, 3" long by 1/2" wide, slightly tomtentose, venation is pinnate, leaf arrangement opposite, darker above and paler beneath. Pleasant aroma to crushed leaves....slightly minty. Stems are squarish.
Does that help or do they all look like that? LOL
K
Susie just keep it damp, warm, and in indirect light. Roots easy
Karen that sound like it. I know Leo Leo has a nice smell when leaves are crushed and it is a shrub. Leo Nepataefolia is a tall branching stalk. Chele gave me my first plants 2 or 3 years ago and have been in love with it ever since.
Surely it's Leo leo then. I'll let you know if I can't make my wimpy cuttings take, Badseed. Thanks all!
Karen :~D
Donna, softwood or hardwood cuttings? I've got little green tip cuttings trying to root now. I put some in perlite and some in vermiculite.
softwood but not tips Susie. Use about a 6" cutting and bury half of it in the dirt. I never have luck trying to root anything hardwood
