Hi there,
I am new here and thought I would introduce myself. I have been an AV fan for years. But only have a small collection - 33 at last count. This is my AV shelf. The white shelves helps with the light and they love it there.
Enjoying it here with all the helpful information.

Hi Dawna ,
Nice to meet you ! Welcome to our wonderful African violet Forum your's too :))
I love your shelves. Their just great. Do they have lights. How neat .
Do you have any named plants. I am very interested in growing Canadian Hybrids. They are excellent growing and blooming plants.
Have you checked out our Stickys ? They are full of information. I use them each day.
Hope you hang out with us often .

Hi Dawna! Welcome! Glad you stopped by. there are a few links in the sticky for Canadian suppliers if you need them.
Be careful hanging out here, we're all a bunch of enablers. LOL. Only took a few days and this group had me hooked on AV's.
Cheers,
Laurie

Well Laurie,
Thank you for the welcome.
You already have me hooked on getting a sundew or a ping! Love that thread! Having a hard time finding a canadian supplier that is inexpensive.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

There are a few Canadian members in this forum that may be able to trade with you? that's one idea. I know Ali(Violet Treasure) has had experience sending plants to Canada, but not this time of year I don't think.

Are you all freezing to death up there right now? It's been an unusually spring like day. Not so sure that groundhog knew what he was talking about the other day. It's 75º in my office right now! and it was warmer outside. All these plants will get faked out and then a hard frost will hit.

I think everyone here has it bad for those pings. Keyring started it all. LOL

Hello Dawna- they seem happy enough. 33 seems likes a reasonable number of AVs- I am not there yet, but I have hopes and dreams!

Drumheller, Alberta, Canada(Zone 3a)

Well it helps when you have a trading buddy who is also hooked on AV's as well as orchids! I have 7 of those already too!

Allison..On Orchids..Here in FL you can stick them in a tree! The ones I have outside in my trees really do the best! then just bring them in when they are blooming again!

Dawna and Lorry, Laurie I have an Orchid hubby got me Dec, 2004 in bloom and it just about died and few
new green shoots came out thats it. :( And I read and there's so many kinds.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

supposedly - if you can grow an AV you can grow an orchid - they like the same growing conditions..

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh help not me :((

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Allison - I would think that you could grow half of them outdoors in your zone...

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Well I have one t's outside thougt i diedbut itcamebak with new growth. Hubby bought it in full bloom well over
a year ago it has never bloomed again.

Drumheller, Alberta, Canada(Zone 3a)

orchids need lots of light and humidity, more than voilets do.
Have you tried feeding it? They also need food once a month in order to bloom. The Orchid forum here will give you more help too.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

orchids are one of the easiest to grow...literally require no care...just don't let them freeze...

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

LoL Laurie you are too funny!
We have some guy here who has some orchids in his tree as big as a house!
They grow best here just outdoors :)
Mine are actually on a bird perch..I just anchored them on and put it outside under a tree :)

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

getting green up here in the northern reaches of the US.....

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

I have a few oncidiums off the dead shelf at Lowes. I tossed them on the ground in pots on the side of my house where it is shaded. Never feed them and water when I water everything else. They bloom probably twice a year for me. I'm not a big orchid fan because they don't bloom year round. I have one in bloom right now that you're welcome to Allison. I can bring it when I come tomorrow if you want it.
