Chinese Silky Chicken Good Yard Pets???????

My sister in law had a great Chinese Silky as a pet, but not in the country like me. Does anyone have experience with Silkies? Do they make good yard pets? I thought it might be nice to build a little coop off the back of the yard, where I am planning to fence in (only 3' high vinyl fence), and we might keep one or more Silkies there.

I have heard chickens really mess up your flower beds. Do the silkies do that?
