Guess who is visiting the tip of Texas?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Cheryl, Cotosnag from Iowa!! She's on the Island right now! I told her she picked a chilly week to visit. The cold front is moving thru, it was in the upper 70's this morning but the temps are falling now.
We are going to hit all the nurseries! We might even try to find some over close to Texaspuddyprint.

What a wonderful adventure! These cold temps are probably nothing for her. Have a great time, and ditto what vossner said: take lots of pics!

Cala - Make sure you check out Top's Nursery out on Wisconsin Road just a little east of the Cesar Chavez intersection. That's opened until about 5 pm during the week and Saturdays. I think they close at 1pm on Sundays. I haven't been there lately...but am sure she's bound to have some great stuff at really, really good prices.

I'm glad you reminded me Cat. Yesterday we went all over Cameron county. Today I have to do an appraisal in Mission, so I told her I would meet her at Valley Garden Center. I hope we can squeeze in a trip to Top's.
She was looking for a lotus plant, do you know if anyone down here sells them? What about the water garden place in Weslaco?

Edinburg, TX

pssst...the VGC is a tad expensive to me...but they do have a wide selection of plants and trees. Not sure of where to buy lotus...you might have to call the garden centers and ask before making a trip.

Cala...

I forgot...while you're out at the Valley Garden Center (which is at the corner of McColl and business 83...drive west on 83rd past the street light on Cynthia and go a little further then turn left on 1st street (Mama Mia's Pizza is on the south east corner)...that's one block before you hit the street light for 2nd street (Colonel Rowe Blvd).

Drive a couple of blocks down to Dallas...that fence covered with that vine that looks like orange trumpets is on 1st street...between Dallas and Erie.

I should have checked DG before I left for McAllen! Rats. I picked up Cheryl, we headed out to Fairmont(to measure a house, I put her to work, lol), then we went to VGC and a little nursery on 10th that had lots of roses. VGC has a PURPLE rose, I mean purple, not lavender! Cheryl fell in love with it. We had lunch and went to Lowes then I had to head back to get my DD at school. Time flies when one is shopping for plants!
We were right there by that house, we came in on Bus 83 to McColl!

Ah,

So ya'll fell in love with the roses :o) VGC has about 134 varieties to choose from...all very lovely.

I should have remembered to post the 'infamous vine' message earlier...oh well, tomorrow is another day :o)

I just found out I have to go to Hidalgo county next week. I'll take the directions and even if my boss is riding with me, we are going to go have a look at that vine!!
Cheryl went to Top's today with out me, can you believe that????

How did Cherly like Top's? I haven't been there in some months...but really need to make time to do so to get ready for Spring. She usually has a good variety of everything.

She said there were lots of plants, but not a lot of variety yet. I've noticed the nurseries are just starting to stock up. Guess they'e waiting till this cool spell is over.
